More Detail:
A HOLIDAY HIDEOUT is an UPtv romantic comedy streaming on UP Faith & Family. The story follows Dean, a Mafia member in witness protection, and Jessie, the agent assigned to keep him safe over Christmas. The pair initially clash, but, as they spend more time together, they start to see new sides of each other.
Dean Cupo is a trusted assistant to Mr. Dinozzo, a crime boss. However, when Dinozzo’s home gets raided, and he’s accused of killing an undercover agent, Dean agrees to testify against him and must go into the witness protection program. He’s put under the protection of Jessie Temple, a no-nonsense agent who takes her job very seriously.
The pair hide out in a small town and quickly get on each other’s nerves. Dean thinks Jessie is uptight, while Jessie is irritated by Dean’s constant flirting with every woman he meets, as well as his refusal to take his situation seriously. However, after agreeing to play Santa and an elf in the town’s Christmas square, Dean and Jessie start to see different sides of each other. One little girl asks Dean (as Santa) if he can bring back the town’s annual Christmas tree lighting, and he says he will.
Meanwhile, Dinozzo and his wife have hired a hitman to take out Dean. As Dean and Jessie befriend the town’s female mayor and work to make the tree lighting happen, the hitman tries and fails to kill Dean. However, they’re unaware anyone is after them.
Dean accompanies the mayor to the town’s Christmas dance, and they flirt. However, after Dean sees Jessie all dressed up, he starts to wonder if he’s been flirting with the wrong woman. The hitman strikes again, putting a peanut, which Dean is allergic to, in his drink. Dean has a reaction, but Jessie uses an EpiPen, and the two head back to their hotel. As Dean sleeps, Jessie realizes all the “accidents” they’ve been dealing with have been attempts on Dean’s life.
Meanwhile, Dinozzo talks to another inmate who shares the story of Christmas with him and impresses upon him how important the gift of love is. Dinozzo realizes that he loves Dean like a son and wants to call off the hit. However, can he get to the hitman in time?
A HOLIDAY HIDEOUT is a fun twist on the traditional Christmas romantic comedy. The romantic leads, Arielle Kebbel and Colin Egglesfield, have good chemistry, but the movie doesn’t devote enough time to their growing relationship. So, the movie’s romance aspect feels rushed. Also, the organized crime storyline is underdeveloped, leaving the viewer with more questions than answers.
A HOLIDAY HIDEOUT has a strong Christian, moral worldview. For example, the movie contains a redemptive scene sharing the real Christmas story, which encourages a man to have a change of heart. Also, the movie stresses doing the right thing and focuses people’s moral character inside. It also celebrates Christmas traditions like Christmas trees and Christmas carols like “What Child Is This?” and “O Little Town Of Bethlehem.” However, A HOLIDAY HIDEOUT contains brief action violence scenes and some off-color jokes. For example, Dean jokes with Jessie that there’s room for two in the shower. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.
