COCOMELON LANE: Episodes 4.1-4.3

"JJ and Friends Navigate Big Feelings Through Song"

What You Need To Know:

The first three episodes of Season Four of COCOMELON LANE, streaming on Netflix, focus on JJ, a preschool-aged boy, and his friends and family as they play, imagine, and navigate the world around them. The show is very vibrant and artistic, with good-quality animation. COCOMELON LANE teaches children to be kind, work together, and deal with difficult emotions, such as problem-solving and showing kindness to people and animals.

The series has a biblical/moral worldview but contains a woke ideology and LGBTQ+ content. After facing controversy for featuring a same-sex couple in the first season, the same two dads appear in the intro song standing together and affectionately touching. Although the couple doesn't appear in any of the three episodes, they appear in the intro to each episode, which is immoral and inappropriate for young eyes. The series is generally family-friendly with no violence, foul language, or sexual content. MOVIEGUIDE® recommends caution due to LGBTQ+ couple and advises that children aged two and under to have no screen time, while preschoolers aged three to five should have extremely limited screen time.

In Episode One, JJ goes to a fire station for his birthday. His friends and family ride on a fire truck to celebrate. Later, the children have a ‘pet party’ where they bring their pets to play together. Cody’s cat, Pickles, is unhappy, so his parents take the cat home, and Cody is very disappointed. He’s encouraged by his friends and realizes that even though Pickle’s isn’t there, he can still share about Pickle’s with his friends.

In Episode Two, Cody feels nervous about participating in show and tell, but his parents encourage him to feel his feelings and wait until he is ready to share with the class. He gains confidence and participates in the show and tell with his friends. Later, JJ falls off his scooter and hurts his knee. He cries, but his siblings encourage him. He shares with his friends how he got hurt, but everything ends up being okay. Then, Bella watches JJ’s dog Bingo and feels terrible when she doesn’t realize he’s hungry. Her mom encourages and teaches her that pets will instinctively communicate their needs.

In Episode Three, Nina attends a Tae Kwon Do class, and her teacher notices she’s distracted. The teacher gives her coping tools to help her focus and by stopping to “look, listen, learn.” Then, Cece attends dance class for the first time. She feels jealous because everyone else dances better than her. Her dad encourages her to just have fun and do her best, and then the whole class dances together and has a fun time.
