DISCOVERING AN EMPTY TOMB: THE STORY OF EASTER

Since children say that they prefer to learn from videos, there need to be more videos available to help children learn about the great characters and events of the Bible. Great Bible Discovery Series is a noteworthy attempt to teach children Bible stories, but, regrettably, its effectiveness will be greatly limited by its meager budget and lack of quality. DISCOVERING THE EMPTY TOMB: THE STORY OF EASTER is the first episode of the Great Bible Discovery Series. It follows Jesus from his triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to his glorious resurrection on Easter morning. Along the way host, David Mead, tries to help children understand what the story means by explaining the action and by posing questions in a fresh, entertaining way. Original artwork portrays the drama of Christ’s passion and his resurrection. In the end, viewers will discover the empty tomb, and the answer to God’s promise found there.

Regrettably, this video doesn’t work. Host David Mead needs much more direction, and his script needs to be rewritten and child-tested. The video tries to be a learning tool for the home and classroom with an interactive approach and live action mixed with storybook-style animation, but the lack of a budget undermines its quality. If this video was reworked, it could become a helpful tool for families and churches.
