More Detail:

HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS is a light, entertaining romantic comedy that, because of foul language and sexual content, is not appropriate for children.

The movie stars Kate Hudson, actress Goldie Hawn’s daughter, and Matthew McConaughey as a magazine writer and an advertising executive in New York City. Hudson plays Andie Anderson, the “How To” writer for a women’s magazine. To help out her friend on the magazine, who just lost her boyfriend, Andie pitches an article to her editor on “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” She will pick out a guy and try irritating him so much that he leaves the relationship.

McConaughey plays Benjamin Barry, who’s anxious to get out of the rut of doing advertising for beer and other men’s products, and wants to make the pitch for his company’s account with a huge diamond company. Two women at Ben’s firm, however, also want the diamond account. When they visit Andie’s magazine, they learn about Andie’s story. Back at their company, they convince the boss to make Ben prove that he can sell a “feminine” account like diamonds. Ben must prove that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. They arrange things so that Andie is the girl that Ben picks as part of the bet.

The stage is now set for lots of comical high jinx. Andie applies all the “Don’ts” that drive men away, while Ben has to take everything she dishes out to prove that he’s the world’s most sensitive, loving, understanding guy. Love lies right around the corner, however.

HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS is lightly amusing and breezy, despite its two-hour length. The movie contains plenty of foul language, however, and brief sexual content. Also, though truth wins out in the end and is upheld as a value, there’s a lot of lying and subterfuge before that happens. Because of its negative content, HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS is not appropriate for children and deserves a caution for teenagers and adults, especially those with Christian values.
