A BUG’S LIFE

"A Fun Epic of Miniature Proportions"

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

Like the movie ANTZ, Pixar Studios and Walt Disney’s A BUG’S LIFE tells the story of a persistent ant who saves his colony from a menacing villain. This time, the villain is a grasshopper named Hopper who leads a band of other grasshoppers to extort food. An inventive worker ant named Flik enlists a group of circus bugs to fend off the evil horde in a story that is reminiscent of Japanese filmmaker Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI and Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini’s LA STRADA about inept circus performers.

A BUG’S LIFE is marvelous family filmmaking. Audiences will probably find the circus bugs the most enjoyable aspect of this movie. Their interaction among each other and with the other characters really brings the movie to life. A BUG’S LIFE extols the values of courage, teamwork, hope, perseverance, community, and individual effort. Flik, the hero ant, shows tremendous courage in standing up for the weak against a bigger, stronger villain, leading to a rousing, heartwarming finish. Computer animation takes another leap forward in this movie. Director John Lasseter and his staff of writers, animators and computer technicians create an elaborate alternate reality that is fun to watch

Content:

(BB, A, M) Moderately moral worldview of good & evil; no foul language; moderate action violence including grasshoppers threaten ants to collect food for them, ant hits rock, circus bugs accidentally scorch flea, birds chase bugs to eat them in several scenes, & evil grasshopper hits ants & threatens child ant; no sex though mild transgender humor about male Ladybug; no nudity; bugs drink alcohol-like drinks in bar settings & mean grasshoppers drink alcohol-like drinks in saloon with Mexican flavor; and, lying rebuked, some references to magical thinking from an all-washed-up Mantis & rebuked intolerance for someone who doesn’t fit in with the crowd.
