More Detail:

CASTING CROWNS: HOME BY SUNDAY is a spiritually inspiring documentary about the wildly popular Christian band, Casting Crowns, on the anniversary which marks two decades of their incredible, faith-filled journey. The Grammy-winning Casting Crowns has hauled in 15 No. 1 singles and sold more than 13 million albums worldwide. Led by Singer and Songwriter Mark Hall, the demonstrably most famous Christian band ever, always made it home for church on Sunday while on tour. The unbelievably touching story of the ministry and devotion which compels Hall to view his most important title as church “Youth Pastor” is the epitome of a good Christian life. Some dialogue regarding drug abuse and rehabilitation, along with the subject of cancer and death, warrants caution for younger children.

Mark Hall centers his documentary on God’s love and desire for salvation for His people. He does not boast about his career successes, but rather boasts about the God who simply gave him gifts to use as an instrument of God’s love. Hall has made his successful career a ministry. He has formed relationships with his fans that extend far beyond the subject of music. The documentary shows viewers some of these relationships where Casting Crowns has been an instrument of God’s love and healing presence in the lives of ordinary people.

Hall relates how he started as a youth pastor and will always consider himself as a youth pastor. He and the band also discuss some of their biggest hits and most important songs. Hall also tells how he befriended a young girl diagnosed with cancer. He prayed for her, and with her. Prayers were answered and the cancer disappeared. Sometime later, however, the cancer sadly returned with a vengeance. Mark walked with this brave little girl and her family, offering a supportive friendship and prayer. Upon her death, Mark wrote a hit song in her honor.

Though Mark tries hard to keep the focus off himself and onto Jesus, many people want to share how he has touched their lives. In another heart-tugging moment, the story unfolds of how he helped his current drummer overcome drug addiction. In his typical kind, non-judgmental fashion, he brought his whole band to the drummer’s rehab to show support and encouragement. The band played for all the residents.

According to Mark, the greatest challenge of his life is when he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He had a crisis that almost ended Casting Crowns. God had always used Mark to help others walk through their valleys of life. Now he was in a position where he needed the help and prayers of others. He asserts that the Lord was teaching him how to accept the love and prayers he had so freely given away. Bending to God’s teaching, and with Christ by his side, Mark triumphed over cancer.

The band’s journey has led to many changes. One thing that’s never changed is the fact that Mark Hall and Casting Crowns give all the glory to God.

CASTING CROWNS: HOME BY SUNDAY tells an incredible, uplifting story. The movie keeps the focus on God and others. However, the audience cannot help but marvel at the faith and sincerity of Mark Hall, the lead singer and main songwriter for CASTING CROWNS. The story of the band is uplifting in way not yet seen in a group of people with this caliber of success. HOME BY DUNDAY is not recommended for younger children due to some mature content, but the documentary is a wonderful tribute to the nature of our loving God.
