IN THE FACE OF EVIL: REAGAN’S WAR IN WORD AND DEED

In the last 100 years, the State has used Big Government, Socialism, Atheism, and Paganism to murder nearly 200 million people. As historian Paul Johnson remarks in his masterpiece, MODERN TIMES, without the concept of a Holy God to put the breaks on the political power of the State, the Will to Power becomes the supreme goal. Tyranny is often the result.

IN THE FACE OF EVIL: REAGAN’S WAR IN WORD AND DEED is a powerful exposition of these moral truths. It shows how President Ronald Reagan’s policies led directly to the collapse of Communism in the Soviet Union. It also shows how Reagan’s policies were born out of America’s knowledge and experience of the horrors of Adolf Hitler’s National Socialists in Germany and Joseph Stalin’s mass murders in the 1930s, 1940s and early 1950s in the Soviet Union. It even shows how Reagan’s opposition to Soviet-backed Communists trying to take over Hollywood in the late 1940s played a role in forming his strong opposition to their evil ideology. From there, the movie shows the failure of presidents before Reagan to stop the Communist march against America and the free world. After a careful examination of how Reagan’s policies and personal courage defeated the Soviet Union, the filmmakers then show that Islamic terrorism represents the new Totalitarian Beast that now threatens our liberty. Only a comprehensive military, social and economic strategy like Reagan’s can defeat them, the movie suggests.

IN THE FACE OF EVIL is brilliant. It is also thoroughly captivating and very moving. The movie clearly exposes the evils behind the totalitarian regimes of Adolph Hitler and the Communists in the Soviet Union, Cuba and Latin America. It also gives a wonderful exposition of President Reagan’s character, including his strong faith in God, and shows the importance that Christianity played in helping the United States to defeat both Adolph Hitler and the Soviet Union.

The movie clearly proves its case, that politicians must support their words with their deeds. The only quibble one might have is with the movie’s contention that totalitarianism always attacks religion, free speech, intellectual inquiry, and artistic freedom. This is a limited list that’s subject to different interpretations. For example, traditional conservatism says that totalitarianism attacks private property, the bedrock of all political freedom. Totalitarianism also greatly restricts freedom to travel and freedom of association. Also, traditional conservatives believe that the notion of free speech and artistic freedom does not include the freedom to spread pornography.

IN THE FACE OF EVIL, unlike many recent left-wing documentaries, uses many hard facts to support its case. It is must-see history illuminated, especially if you don’t have the time to read Paul Johnson’s marvelous, informative book. It is also very entertaining. Don’t let this year go by without seeing this movie. In fact, you might not want to cast a vote in the next presidential election without seeing IN THE FACE OF EVIL.
