LINSANITY is absorbing and inspiring. A documentary, it’s about Jeremy Lin, a devout Asian-American Christian who captured massive media coverage by playing some miraculous basketball for the New York Knicks in 2011. As a child, Jeremy dreamed of playing basketball like Michael Jordan. He worked hard developing his basketball skills and had tremendous success in children’s leagues and high school. He constantly had to overcome the false impression that basketball isn’t for Asians. Jeremy leads his high school team to a state championship and finds success at Harvard, but no NBA team will draft him. Then, the New York Knicks sign Jeremy and put him in a couple games. The rest, as they say, is history.
Throughout LINSANITY, Jeremy explains God’s role in his success. The truths he shares about letting go and letting God work through you apply to much more than just basketball. LINSANITY details times of great struggle, discouragement and discrimination, but shows how God helped Jeremy get through them. A little slow in places, LINSANITY more than makes up for that with the tremendous Christian lessons it offers.
(CCC, BBB, L, N, M) Very strong Christian, moral worldview; three minor obscenities; no sex; upper male nudity; no alcohol; no smoking or drugs; and, some racial slurs against Asians and racial discrimination.
LINSANITY is a documentary about Jeremy Lin, a devout Christian Asian-American who captured massive media coverage by playing some miraculous basketball for the New York Knicks in 2011. The story of how he even made it to the NBA is filled with great lessons about trusting in God and pursuing God’s will with passion.
As a child, Jeremy dreamed of playing basketball like Michael Jordan. He worked very hard developing his basketball skills and had tremendous success in children’s leagues and high school. He constantly had to overcome the false impression that basketball isn’t a sport for Asians. After leading his high school team to a state championship, defeating a heavily favored, much taller team in the final game, Lin received only an offer from Harvard. Other schools just couldn’t believe an Asian was worth a scholarship. Lin excelled at Harvard and helped them upset teams ranked much higher, but he wasn’t drafted by any NBA team.
After the draft, however, he managed to sign with the Golden State Nuggets and later the Huston Rockets. However, both teams released him. Then, when one of their players was injured, the New York Knicks signed Jeremy.
At first, Jeremy warmed the Knicks bench for several games in a losing streak. He then played horribly in the first game. Then, in what could have been the last game of his career, he played like Michael Jordan. The Knicks won and the basketball world wondered, “Where did this come from?”
Lin proceeded to help the Knicks win several games in a row. He play was amazing. The media coined the word “Linsanity,” and his story went far beyond sports news. He became an international sensation.
Throughout the movie LINSANITY, Jeremy Lin explains God’s role in his success. The truths he shares about letting go and letting God work through you apply to much more than just basketball. The movie details times of great struggle, discouragement, and discrimination as well, showing how God helped Jeremy become what God wanted him to be. A little slow in places, this inspiring movie about Jeremy Lin more than makes up for it with the tremendous Christian lessons it conveys.
