MOVING THE MOUNTAIN is a masterful documentary of the people and events surrounding the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre, directed by Michael Apted, of NELL and COAL MINER’S DAUGHTER fame. This film looks back at the failed demonstration through a round table narration by six of the student leaders involved who are now in America, on the lam from their own government. In the 1980’s, Lu and others became inspired and encouraged by freedom seekers. When these freedon seekers are arrested and imprisoned, Lu and his cohorts stage a hunger strike in Tiananmen square. The Communist government decides the only way to remove them is through martial law. Chaos ensues, many innocent people are slaughtered and Lu and his friends become fugitives.

MOVING THE MOUNTAIN, neglects to mention that spiritual freedom is as important as political freedom. It is engagingly told and masterfully recreated through original and archival footage. This film is a testimony to courage and a rallying cry for freedom.
