Now, at one of the most productive times for comics to be made into movies, enters the first high profile arcade fight game to come to the big screen: STREET FIGHTER. From the writer of DIE HARD & DIE HARD 2, and producer of THE CROW comes Jean-Claude Van Damme as the high kicking Allied Nations commander, Colonel Guile, in STREET FIGHTER. After the taking of 63 hostages by the warlord General M. Bison, Guile becomes the leader of the video game ensemble to free the hostages and overthrow Bison’s $20 billion grip of blackmail on the world. What ensues is a power packed 90 minutes of action and adventure as Guile, Lt. Cammy and T. Hawk with the help of Chung-Li and her news crew of Honda and Balrog, team up with renegade black marketeers Ken and Ryu to use bad guys Sagat and Vega to lead them to Bison and his minions Dee Jay and Zangief.
STREET FIGHTER is filled with brief fight scenes designed to give fans as much arcade-like one-on-one combat as possible. At the same time, the film depicts the classic battle between good and evil where all kinds of “good” guys come together to fight the tyranny of evil and several positive moral points are thrown in for good measure. Also, the hero is portrayed as a powerful, charismatic leader, with ingenuity and poise. However, there are many disturbing elements in the film including some New Age undertones such as the villain who believes he is a god.
