More Detail:

Netflix’s new series THE GOOD COP introduces viewers to a pathological rule follower, NYPD Detective TJ Caruso, played by Josh Groban. Several moments of comedy surround his compulsive honesty, like when he won’t drive through a broken red light. TJ lives with his father, Tony Caruso (Tony Danza), a disgraced former officer just out of prison for being dirty. In this first episode, Tony is framed for the murder of the man who put him in jail. TJ must solve the case before his father is locked up for a crime he didn’t commit.

THE GOOD COP’s first episode feels a little awkward – like everyone is still figuring out what the show is supposed to be. It tries to walk the line between drama and comedy, but, on the first attempt, does neither successfully. Groban, especially, needs to warm up in his role. This first episode paints a stark line between TJ’s high ethical standards (maybe including Christianity; he has a Bible in his beside drawer), and Tony’s low ethical standards. Some crude humor and mild violence make this episode unsuitable for children.
