What You Need To Know:

YOU’RE CORDIALLY INVITED is a comedy on Prime Video. Jim, a devoted father of a bride-to-be, and Margot, the sister of another bride, go head-to-head when they’re accidentally double-booked at the same wedding venue. Trouble brews when Jim overhears Margot making fun of how close he is with his daughter. He decides to gently mess with Neve’s wedding. Things quickly get out of hand. Jim and Margot want to win at all costs, but will they end up ruining both weddings?

YOU’RE CORDIALLY INVITED is a solid comedy, with great performances from leads Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon. However, its long runtime and thin plot means the story sometimes drags a bit. YOU’RE CORDIALLY INVITED has a strong moral worldview, mitigated by some pagan, immoral behavior. It stresses the importance of family and features a dedicated father. YOU’RE CORDIALLY INVITED also has redemptive scenes of forgiveness and reconciliation. However, it features lots of strong foul language, alcohol use, a couple preparing to welcome a baby out of wedlock, and multiple scenes showing dysfunctional family dynamics. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises unacceptable for all ages.

More Detail:

In YOU’RE CORDIALLY INVITED on Prime Video, two wedding parties are accidentally booked at the same hotel for the same weekend. Chaos ensues, as Jim and Margot, fight to give their daughter and sister the best weddings ever, while they squabble and sabotage each other.

Will Ferrell stars as Jim, a devoted father and widower. He’s surprised when his daughter, Jenni, informs him she’s engaged to her boyfriend. Jim’s supportive, however. He even calls to book a weekend for Jenni’s wedding at Palmetto Island, where he and his late wife got married. Unknown to him, however, a freak accident leads to his booking not being made official.

Meanwhile, Margot, an executive at a Reality TV network played by Reese Witherspoon, is told by her sister, Neve, that she’s engaged to her boyfriend. After sharing some of her nerves about the wedding, Margot volunteers to plan it and also books a weekend at Palmetto Island, where the sisters spent summers with their grandmother. However, Margot has booked the same weekend that Jim thought he had booked his daughter’s wedding.

A year later, both parties arrive at Palmetto Island and are dismayed to find it’s been double-booked. Margot and Jim eventually agree to share the island, and festivities for both weddings go forward. Also, Margot’s sister, Neve, is now pregnant.

Sadly, trouble brews when Jim overhears Margot making fun of how close he is with his daughter. He decides to gently mess with Neve’s wedding. Things quickly get out of hand, however, and Neve’s wedding ends up being ruined. Jim confesses what he did to Margot, and she declares war.

Margot and her siblings do their best to ruin Jenni’s wedding reception. Later, she thinks she sees Jenni’s new husband, Oliver, kissing one of the bridesmaids. She tells Jim, who tells Jenni. Jenni makes a scene at the reception, but it’s revealed that Margot had mistaken someone else for Oliver. Jenni ends up storming out after she and her father have a big fight. She and Oliver leave the island, and Jim blames Margot.

Can Jim and Margot straighten everything out to everybody’s satisfaction?

YOU’RE CORDIALLY INVITED is a funny, well-made movie. There are hilarious performances from the two leads, Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon. Supporting cast members like Leanne Morgan, Jimmy Tatro and Rory Scovel also give great comedic performances. However, the movie’s two-hour runtime means the story starts to drag. Especially since the somewhat thin plot doesn’t do enough to fill the time.

YOU’RE CORDIALLY INVITED has a strong moral, redemptive worldview. It stresses the importance of family and forgiveness. However, the movie features lots of strong and gratuitous obscenities and profanities, many scenes involving alcohol, a couple expecting a baby out of wedlock, and scenes showing dysfunctional family dynamics. MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
