THE WINSLOW BOY

Quality:
****
Content:
+3 Some minor questionable elements. (Media-wisdom is suggested to discuss.)
THE WINSLOW BOY is based on Terence Rattigan's play about the real-life story of a family in 1910 England who hires a lawyer to defend the youngest son after he is accused of stealing a five shilling postal order. It is a very good G-rated melodrama that brings up provocative issues about the cost of justice, and finally has to resort to quoting Jesus to make the point of the argument of this profound case.

TARZAN

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
Walt Disney Pictures' TARZAN is the first animated feature to focus on the legendary jungle hero. Using a "deep canvas," 3-D effect where Tarzan swings, skids and flips through the jungle as the camera zooms in and around the landscape, this mostly moral story has some mild action violence and some political correctness which calls for parents to spend a media-wise moment with their children if they allow their children see it.

STUART LITTLE

Quality:
***
Content:
+2 Moderately questionable elements.
In the new family movie, STUART LITTLE, a human family in New York City adopts a little mouse named Stuart, who has trouble fitting in despite his big courageous heart. A nutty fairy tale with excellent special effects, STUART LITTLE contains pro-family and redemptive messages marred by four mild obscenities.

ENDURANCE

Quality:
***
Content:
+3 Some minor questionable elements. (Media-wisdom is suggested to discuss.)
ENDURANCE is a story of a third-world runner who implements his faith in Jesus Christ solely from his third-world environment and wins a spectacular triumph through faith and hard work. While its market may be limited due to the subtitles throughout, ENDURANCE may well requite the movie appetite of those who enjoyed CHARIOTS OF FIRE.

OCTOBER SKY

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
Based on a true story, the movie tells how a West Virginia teenager named Homer in 1957 starts building home-made rockets with his friends so that they can eventually win a prize at the state science fair. Homer's father is the major obstacle the "rocket boys" face in their goal to escape the confined world of their mining hometown. The movie's pro-family, moral worldview is marred by more than 30 obscenities and one line of dialogue about teenage premarital sex that is not rebuked.

THE IRON GIANT

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
In THE IRON GIANT, young Hogarth befriends a giant robot, which is designed for war, but is transformed by love in the face of military attack. The story makes it seem like all guns are bad and includes problems in describing the soul. Yet, the story also has wonderful elements of love overcoming evil, death and resurrection.

GALAXY QUEST

Quality:
***
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
In GALAXY QUEST, the new science fiction comedy, Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver play two TV actors in a canceled science fiction show who get the chance to do the real thing when a group of real aliens ask for the help of them and their TV crew. GALAXY QUEST delights in mixing action with comedy to create a funny, exciting movie, with only a few mild off-color bits, some foul language and insignificant story glitches spoiling the fun.

STAR WARS: EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
The new STAR WARS movie, THE PHANTOM MENACE, provides a reassuring and even humorous familiar symphony. Two Jedi nights, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, rescue the queen of a planet and meet Anakin Skywalker, the future Darth Vader. Battles occur, sword fights take place, there is great loss, and surprising triumphs. Based on mythic concepts, the action filled story has lots of other references to Hollywood movies and plays comfortably PG, though it’s laced with New Age and even Occult philosophy. So, caution is advised for children.
