Actress Calls Prayer “Anti-Intellectual”

Left-wing actress and talk show host Janeane Garofalo criticized President Obama’s speech on the gulf oil spill recently on “The Joy Behar Show,” stating that his reference to God and prayer was “pandering.”

The actress, who established herself as an outspoken, radical liberal activist when the U.S. invaded Iraq in 2003, said the President’s mention of prayer was “a waste of time,” and proceeded to call prayer “stuff” “anti-intellectual.”

“It has nothing to do with what has happened,” Garofalo said. “It has nothing to do with any real way to solve the problem.”

Ironically, what Garofalo so vehemently demeans and opposes during our nation’s distress is precisely what the Word of God exhorts us to do. In 2 Chronicles 7:14, the Lord promises to forgive our sin and heal our land if we will humble ourselves and pray.

Ms. Garofalo’s anti-Christian sentiments only demonstrate Jesus’ words that in this world, we will face trouble and be hated because of Him (Jn.16:33, Luke 21:17). But we are not to fear, for He has overcome the world, and in Him, we can have peace (Jn. 16:33).

Contrary to what many skeptics and radicals like Garofalo feel (they seldom ever think), Christianity is actually the most intelligent, rational religion or belief system one can possibly hold. And, prayer is a rational acknowledgement of the limited existence of human beings on this earth and the ever-present power and glory of the Divine Architect who created us all in His image.

Furthermore, throughout history, Christians have been among the most intelligent, kindest, and even most scientific, people who ever lived.
