SARAH’S CHOICE

"Strong Pro-Life Movie"

What You Need To Know:

In SARAH’S CHOICE, Sarah Collins has to choose between her career and having a child. Through raised in a Christian home, Sarah becomes pregnant by her boyfriend. Her friends pressure her to have an abortion. Her boyfriend isn’t sure he’s ready for marriage and fatherhood. Then, a mysterious stranger visits Sarah. As in A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Sarah has THREE visions of life with her baby, the joys of motherhood, and the person she might become if she chooses to have an abortion. Sarah makes the choice to keep the child and her boyfriend asks her to marry him. More importantly, Sarah turns back to God in repentance.

SARAH’S CHOICE is a well-made movie, especially considering that it is a lower budgeted independent production. The music is well placed and features a song by Rebecca St. James. The acting is a bit uneven at times. However, this doesn’t detract from the movie’s solidly Christian message. SARAH’S CHOICE clearly says love is more than just a feeling and repentance is necessary. It also shows the wisdom of giving your plans to God. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children due to the movie’s abortion theme.

More Detail:

In SARAH’S CHOICE, Sarah Collins (played by Rebecca St. James) has to choose between her career and having a child. Sarah was raised in a Christian home, but is now on her own and has since strayed from God since her father’s death. While on the brink of landing an important promotion, Sarah learns she is pregnant with her boyfriend’s child.

Sarah decides to tell her un-motivated and immature boyfriend she is pregnant. The soon to be father, Matt, struggles to grow up and become responsible.

Meanwhile, Sarah’s friends and co-workers pressure her to get an abortion. Sarah learns her close friend and co-worker had an abortion when she was young. While her friend does not regret her decision, it still haunts her.

Borrowing a page from A CHRISTMAS CAROL by Charles Dickens, Sarah is visited by a mysterious stranger who tells her that she will have three visions that will challenge her heart.

The first vision is a dream where Sarah is with her newly born baby. Sarah wakes up realizing that what is inside of her “isn’t just a clump of cells.” In her second vision, Sarah has a dream in which it is her birthday and her daughter, now six, has made her a birthday breakfast and planned a fun day of sledding. The third and final vision shows both Sarah and Matt as grandparents. Their daughter has just given birth to her first child.

Sarah then asks Matt, “Are you glad we did it? Are you glad we got married? It wasn’t like we had much of a choice.” Matt responds, “Oh we had a choice, and we made the right one.” Sarah looks endearingly at a Christmas ornament that says “mom” on it.

In what seems to be “part two” to her third vision, Sarah encounters the lonely old woman she would become if she went through with the abortion. Sarah discovers that this old woman is the one who gave her the message of “3 visions.”

Sarah finally breaks down in repentance. She cries out to God because she is scared. She admits that she was mad at God for taking her dad, but now she thanks Him that her dad is in heaven and for saving her baby by way of these visions. Matt realizes that he needs God’s help and asks Sarah to marry him. He, with God’s help, will try to be the best husband and father he can. Sarah’s friend also makes peace with her past. The decision to have an abortion had been weighing heavily on her, but in the end, she asks God’s forgiveness.

SARAH’S CHOICE is a well-made movie, especially considering that it is a lower budgeted independent production. The music is well placed and features a song by Rebecca St. James. The acting is a bit uneven at times.

However, this doesn’t detract from the solidly Christian message this movie delivers. The movie clearly says love is more than just a feeling and repentance is necessary. It also shows the wisdom of giving your plans to God.

SARAH’S CHOICE is a movie with a message and the message is very strong. Because of the abortion theme, discretion needs to be exercised concerning younger children viewing this fine movie.
