Review:

Featuring original songs by Barry Manilow and the voices of Martin Short, James Belushi and Tim Curry, the animated musical adventure movie THE PEBBLE AND THE PENGUIN is a lighthearted cartoon for all ages to enjoy. The movie begins on the shores of Antarctica where male penguins must "propose" to the female penguins by presenting them with an acceptable pebble before the full moon. While Hubie has always dreamed of giving Marina a pebble, he is very shy. His friends tease him and tell him there is no way he could ever win her, especially since Drake the villain wants her too. Even though he feels hopeless, he searches for the rarest and most beautiful pebble for Marina. However, Drake finds out and sends Hubie floating away unconscious on an iceberg. It is only with the help of a new friend that Hubie makes his way back and fights for his true love.

Stressing the qualities of honor, friendship and love, THE PEBBLE AND THE PENGUIN illustrates that true love conquers all. While targeting young children with its bright animation and lively music, THE PEBBLE AND THE PENGUIN is a delightful treat for any age. Regrettably, the movie also includes some minor magical thinking which must be brought to the attention of children with the instruction that faith in God is the answer not wishing for the impossible.
