What You Need To Know:

TYLER PERRY’S MADEA’S WITNESS PROTECTION opens on George, the CFO of an investment firm. George learns he’s been set up as the fall guy in a Ponzi scheme bilking non-profit organizations. After death threats from the Mafia gangsters behind the scheme, he and his family are offered witness protection by Brian, the prosecutor assigned to pursue the case. Brian enlists his Aunt Madea to host the family for $4,000 a month. George uses Madea to go to New York City and pose as a woman named Precious Jackson to transfer money out of a secret account he uncovers, to pay back the charities his firm bilked. Perry uses this as an opportunity to put Madea through her comedy paces in airports, taxis and a hotel.

The acting and production quality in MADEA’S WITNESS PROTECTION are more like a TV sit-com featuring gags rather than a theatrical release. It has some church scenes and encouragement of morality. However, it also encourages vulgarity and dishonesty and includes many innuendos and discussions of Madea’s sexually permissive past. Most of the foul language is light, but MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution for MADEA’S WITNESS PROTECTION.

Content:

(Pa, CC, B, LLL, V, S, A, DD, MM) A lightly mixed, or pagan, worldview featuring pride in past promiscuity as well as current acceptability of vulgarity and dishonesty, mixed with some overt content honoring God and church and some scenes encouraging honesty and opposing crime; at least 67 light obscenities and no profanities, plus some toilet humor; a young man unsuccessfully attempts to rob Madea and gunpoint; numerous sexual innuendos frequent discussion of past sexual immorality not condemned; no nudity; Madea requests alcohol while traveling on an airline; mention of past drug use; and, a Ponzi scheme, dishonesty, and disrespect of parents.

More Detail:

TYLER PERRY’S MADEA’S WITNESS PROTECTION features Perry in his foul-mouthed spunky old lady routine agreeing to host a dysfunctional family of five white people in a witness protection program. Loaded with mild obscenities and sexual innuendos, it pays homage to Christianity while actually encouraging bad behavior.

The movie opens with George (Eugene Levy), the wealthy CFO of an investment firm, learning he has been set up as the fall guy in a Ponzi scheme bilking non-profit organizations. After death threats from the Mafia members behind the scheme, he and his family are offered witness protection by Brian (Tyler Perry not in drag), the prosecutor assigned to pursue the case. Brian enlists his Aunt Madea (Perry in drag) to host the family for $4,000 a month.

Madea is repulsed by the behavior of Cindy, George’s teenage daughter and tries to convince George’s young wife to gain some backbone and cuss out her rebellious step-daughter. Perry also takes on the role of Joe, Madea’s elderly brother, who we learn from George’s mother (Doris Roberts), is the father of George. She had a one-night-stand with him many years ago.

George enlists Madea to go to New York City and pose as a woman named Precious Jackson to transfer money out of a secret account he discovers in order to pay back the charities his firm bilked. Perry uses this as an opportunity to put Madea through her comedy paces in airports, taxis, and a hotel.

Perry’s Madea movies attract an audience that enjoys seeing a vulgar, spunky old lady put into an assortment of comedic opportunities. The movie has church scenes and some encouragement of morality, but it also encourages vulgarity and dishonesty, including an abundance of sexual innuendos and discussions of Madea’s sexually permissive past.

The foul language is what you might call “soft” (no “f” words), but MOVIEGUIDE® recommends extreme caution for TYLER PERRY’S MADEA’S WITNESS PROTECTION. The acting and production quality are more like those of a television sit-com featuring gags rather than a theatrical release.

Tyler Perry’s actual life story includes a strong testimony of faith in God, but movies like MADEA’S WITNESS PROTECTION fall far short of the potential presented Tyler to encourage Godly behavior.
