UNDEFEATED

"A Father to the Fatherless"

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

UNDEFEATED is a very powerful, dramatic documentary that hits the right plot points. Manassas High School in North Memphis, Tennessee has one of the worst losing football teams anywhere. When the Firestone plant shut down, the community died. Most of the black youths have no fathers, and some have no families at all. Into this football wasteland comes Bill Courtney, a successful salesman and small business owner. Bill decides to coach this failing football team to greatness. Bill empathizes with these kids, even though he’s white, because his own father left when he was four, so Bill has always felt unwanted. The entire movie is about Bill trying to get these youth to have faith and values. He insists football doesn’t build character, it reveals character.

UNDEFEATED is an extremely inspiring, exceptional documentary. It has references to Jesus. Bill prays with the team. There are John 3:16 signs. The music is good. The pacing is great. There are some exasperating moments, but Bill hangs in there. Finally, the ending makes the whole movie worth watching. There is some rough PG-13 language in UNDEFEATED, however, so caution is advised, especially for children.

Content:

UNDEFEATED is a very powerful, dramatic documentary that hits all the right plot points.

The entire movie is about Bill trying to get these children to have faith and values. He insists football doesn’t build character, it reveals character.

Some of these boys are very hard cases. Chavez not only doesn’t have a father but he’s been in juvenile penitentiary. A young man named Money is too small for the game, but he plays with all of his heart until he bursts his ligaments. A wealthy white family takes in O.C. so he can be tutored and make it to college.

UNDEFEATED is an extremely inspiring, exceptional documentary. It has references to Jesus. Bill prays with the team, which says the Lord’s Prayer. There are John 3:16 signs. The music is good. The pacing is great. There are some exasperating moments, but Bill hangs in there. Finally, the ending makes the whole movie worth watching.

The downside is that Bill uses some rough language. At one point, he rebukes the team and himself for his language and says, “If you guys don’t shape up, you force me to get angry, and then I have to repent and pray.” Clearly, he has a vibrant relationship with God and some of the boys learn from Bill about God, family, and character.

Hopefully, UNDEFEATED will get the support at the box office it deserves. It’s one of those rare documentaries that could appeal to a wide audience.
