What You Need To Know:

THE PRINCESS DIARIES 2: ROYAL ENGAGEMENT is the story of Mia as she returns to the kingdom of Genovia to accept her crown. She learns, however, that women must be married before they can become queen, so she now has one month to find a husband. Meanwhile, another heir to the throne, Lord Nicholas, is being pushed to the forefront by his uncle, Viscount Mabrey, who wants to sabotage the coronation and make Nicholas king.

PRINCESS DIARIES 2 is one of the best constructed movies of the summer, with a straight-ahead plot, good sense of jeopardy, and a story that keeps the audience engrossed the whole time. Mia’s grandmother, Queen Clarisse, teaches values like duty, honor, patriotism, and kindness, and Mia demonstrates them in reaching out to the people of Genovia, especially the orphans. This movie is surprisingly free of any mean-spiritedness. Overall, it is one of the morally great movies of the year. Julie Andrews even gets to sing a song, which is amazing after her famous throat operation, and Anne Hathaway has matured beautifully as an actress. THE PRINCESS DIARIES 2 will delight and inform princesses and princes of all ages. Bravo!

Content:

(BBB, CC, Ro, Fe, V, A, M) Very strong moral worldview with some Christian content and Christian story elements, some follow-your-heart Romantic content and some mild feminist content with the impact of both the Romantic and Feminist content and plot elements muted by a sense of honor, duty, compassion, and responsibility; no foul language; a couple of slapstick pratfalls and a runaway horse, but no overt violence; hugging and kissing, and couple spends night camping together, but no sexual activity; no nudity; champagne at birthday party; no smoking; and, the villain uses deception.

GENRE: Comedy

More Detail:

THE PRINCESS DIARIES was a terrific movie, and it entertained and helped boost the esteem of young girls while communicating messages of honor, duty, self-sacrifice, and responsibility. The good news is that THE PRINCESS DIARIES 2: ROYAL ENGAGEMENT continues in the wonderful tradition of the first movie and is more than delightful.

It is the story of Mia as she returns to her kingdom of Genovia to accept the crown. She learns, however, that women must be married before they can be crowned queen. She now has one month to find a husband.

Meanwhile, Viscount Mabrey is pushing for his nephew, Lord Nicholas, another heir, to claim the crown so that Viscount Mabrey can be the real power behind the throne. The uncle wants to sabotage the coronation and so make Nicholas king.

After an exhaustive search, Mia finds the perfect suitable companion in Lord Andrew Jacoby, but, regrettably, she falls in love with Lord Nicholas. Meanwhile, her grandmother, Queen Clarisse, is in love with her head of security, Joseph. The resolution of these different plot problems is entertaining, exciting and delightful.

PRINCESS DIARIES 2 is one of the best constructed movies of the summer, with a straight-ahead plot, good sense of jeopardy, and a story that keeps the audience engrossed the whole time. Although the story involves Mia setting her own boundaries and coming into a sense of who she is, including a slightly feminist perspective, the deeper elements consist of all the moral virtues that arise from the movie’s context. Furthermore, Queen Clarisse continues to teach values like duty, honor, patriotism, compassion, and kindness, and Mia demonstrates these values in reaching out to the people of Genovia, especially the orphans.

This movie is surprisingly free of any mean-spiritedness. The villain and his cohorts are not frightening or demeaning. Overall, therefore, this is one of the morally great movies of the year. As in the first movie, the acting is very good. Julie Andrews even gets to sing a song, which is amazing in itself after her throat operation, and Anne Hathaway has matured beautifully as an actress. Some of the characters could have been developed more fully, but the plot moves too fast for that.

In the final analysis, THE PRINCESS DIARIES 2 will entertain, delight and instruct princesses and princes of all ages. PRINCESS DIARIES 2 has Heart, Soul and Fun. In fact, PRINCESS DIARIES 2 is irresistible – a royal ball!
