What You Need To Know:
SAVING SILVERMAN contains lots of puerile humor and inappropriate content. There are some funny scenes, but many of its comic moments fall flat. Among the offensive content is a strong homosexual plot regarding a main character, plus a homosexual marriage scene & a scene where two men kiss. In addition, there is some frank sexual discussion and innuendoes, as well as implied fornication. SAVING SILVERMAN may make some viewers laugh, but they will feel guilty about it afterwards.

SAVING SILVERMAN is very much an average adolescent comedy, on par with such modern “classics” as Adam Sandler’s HAPPY GILMORE. In fact, it is directed by Dennis Dugan, the director of Sandler’s BIG DADDY. This means, of course, that the movie contains lots of flatulence jokes and other puerile humor. Although presumably aimed at teens and college-age frat boys (or their equivalent, maturity-wise), SAVING SILVERMAN contains too much inappropriate content – particularly homosexual content – for any impressionable teenager to see.
SAVING SILVERMAN stars Jason Biggs (of AMERICAN PIE), Steve Zahn, and Jack Black (of HIGH FIDELITY) as three young semi-slackers who have been friends since grade school. The three friends share a fondness for pop singer Neil Diamond and have even formed their own sound-alike band, Diamonds in the Rough, complete with long-haired wigs and flashy outfits. Their close-knit triumvirate is threatened when milquetoast Darren (Biggs) falls in “love” with über-feminazi Judith (Amanda Peet of one of the worst movies of 2000, WHIPPED), who takes complete control of his life. Judith forbids Darren from seeing his lifelong pals, so Wayne (Zahn) and J.D. (Black) decide to take action, and their buddy from his new slavemistress. Eventually, they concoct a plan to kidnap Judith, fake her death and set Darren up with his high-school sweetheart, Sandy, who’s about to become a nun. Hilarious hijinks then ensue as the incompetent Wayne and J.D. struggle to overcome the formidable Judith and her kickboxing prowess.
There are some genuinely funny scenes in this movie, although many of its comic moments fall flat. The kidnapping scene is silly fun, for instance, but, most of the movie is standard pagan teenage fare, with the usual offensive content. Among that content is a strong homosexual plot revolving around a main character, including a homosexual marriage scene, some vague homo-eroticism & a scene where two men kiss. In addition, there is some frank sexual discussion and sexual innuendoes, as well as implied fornication and sexual foreplay.
