CIRCUMSTANCE

CIRCUMSTANCE is a foreign drama in Farsi criticizing Iran’s Islamic “republic,” but from a leftist view promoting homosexual perversion. People who support more freedom in Iran should be careful lest they also lend support to vile movies like this.

The story in CIRCUMSTANCE focuses on two 16-year-old girls, wealthy Atafeh and orphaned Shireen. As the two teenagers explore the alcohol and Ecstasy-infused underground clubs of Teheran’s nightlife, they begin to form a lesbian homosexual relationship.

Meanwhile, Atafeh’s drug addicted brother, Mehran, gets clean, returns home and finds hope going to the local mosque. There, he meets an imam, who introduces him to the country’s Moral Police, a volunteer force that pursues people who break the country’s Islamic laws. Mehran joins the Moral Police and begins spying on his own family.

Then, Atafeh and Shireen get pulled over by the police while returning from a party. Atafeh suffers a humiliating sexual examination. Her arrest adds new tension within her liberal family whom Mehran is trying to turn toward real Islam. It also adds tension between her and Shireen, who finally sees the dangers that come with publicly flaunting Iran’s Islamic rules.

Not knowing about the girls’ sexual relationship, Mehran becomes more interested in Shireen to the point of wanting to explore the idea of marriage with her. She eventually accepts his marriage proposal, but only so she can get closer to Atafeh, Mehran’s sister. It’s only a matter of time before Mehran’s surveillance of his family exposes the illicit affair between his new wife and his sister.

CIRCUMSTANCE is an awful movie that mistakes sexual licentiousness for freedom or liberty. Not only is there explicit lesbian activity between the two teenage girls, there’s also a section in the movie where they and two of their male friends decide to dub the pro-homosexual movie MILK, starring Sean Penn, into Farsi. Thus, the movie’s radical, perverted homosexual agenda comes through loud and clear. CIRCUMSTANCE also contains plenty of strong foul language, underage alcohol use and drug references. Sadly, CIRCUMSTANCE won the Audience Award at the very influential Sundance Film Festival, which shows just how far America’s culture has tumbled into the politically correct gutter. (By the way, the two lead actresses don’t look 16 and seem more like college age.)

If CIRCUMSTANCE is the kind of movie that will be produced in the wake of the “Arab Spring” and the reform movement in Iran, then the Islamist extremists in the Middle East will only be emboldened to attack the West and its hegemonic secular immorality even more strongly than they already do. Of course, if Christian churches continue failing to protect God’s moral standards, then the Islamic tyranny we all face could soon become a reality. Christian churches should take a lesson from Iran’s problems and instruct parents not to surrender their moral authority over their children to the church or to religious vigilantes or “Moral Police,” no matter how well intentioned.
