ALLIGATOR EYES plays out in graphic detail Matthew 15:19: “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witnesses, and blasphemies.”

As 2-year-old Pauline witnesses the brutal murders of her mother and one of her lovers in bed, the killer strikes Pauline with the gun butt, causing her to go blind. Now, twenty years later, Pauline looks like she has alligator eyes due to her blindness and is hitchhiking out in the middle of nowhere on some kind of mission when she is picked up by Lance, Marge and Robbie.

The three friends are on their way to a vacation spot. Lance and Marge are trying to rekindle an old relationship while Robbie has just broken up with his girlfriend. Over the next four days, Pauline psychologically commandeers the three, leading them through some of the more despicable behavior to be put on film. The characters drink constantly, swear, curse, fornicate with one another, steal a car, and take showers together, lending credence to Paul’s words that “the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so” (Romans 8:7).

A Hollywood writer once said that seventy-five per cent of writing is story and seventy-five per cent of story is the ending. Since the nature of Pauline’s mission is left a mystery until the last five minutes of the movie, this would seem to be the case with ALLIGATOR EYES.

However, what an idiotic and unbelievable climax it is. It turns out that Pauline’s psychiatrist, Dr. Peterson, having convinced Pauline that she was going to meet her mother’s killer, decides to follow her and the vacationers. Just as Pauline thinks she is about to meet her mother’s killer, she finds out that Dr. Peterson has only made up the story and he is there just to meet her, so she shoots him. There is no need to figure ALLIGATOR EYES out, only avoid it as you would the real thing lying in wait at the edge of a swamp.
