ELYSIUM tops a busy weekend
Sony’s ELYSIUM topped a weekend with four newcomers taking the top for spots. Warner Bros rauncy WE’RE THE MILLERS came in second followed by DISNEY PLANES (a straight to video turned theatrical release). Rounding out the top five were PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS and 2 GUNS.   DISNEY PLANES is a lower budget animation follow up to Pixar’s Cars. It was a very similar story told with planes. The lower budget showed and the August release is not ideal for family movies. PLANES might sell more toys than tickets. With a budget not much larger than PLANES, DESPICABLE ME 2 managed a 9th place finish in its fifth week and a grand total to date of $338 million (very nice).
