UNTIL FOREVER

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

UNTIL FOREVER is a Christian romance that pulls at the heartstrings. Michelle sees Michael teaching a martial arts class and is smitten. Michael enlists the help of his brothers to court Michelle. Just when they both agree they love each other, Michael comes down with lymphoma. An elderly, atheist patient challenges Michael’s Christian faith. The jeopardy is increased when Michael’s brother, Matt, loses his girlfriend and feels nobody cares for him since all the attention is on Michael. So, Matt tries to commit suicide several times. Will Michael and Michelle get married? Will Michael recover? Will Matt commit suicide? Will the elderly atheist convert?

Based on a true story, UNTIL FOREVER is a sweet, winsome movie. Michael is a compelling hero, especially in the midst of a difficult plot about the ravages of cancer. He’s able to pull the story together and keep it from becoming maudlin and melodramatic. The other actors are good but not great. The movie has some static dialogue, uneven acting, rough character arcs, and some unanswered challenges to Christianity. However, UNTIL FOREVER is evangelistic, faithful, entertaining, and compelling.

Content:

(CCC, BBB, V, M) Very strong Christian, evangelistic worldview with Christian hero debating Anti-Christian atheist, and hero’s brother is suicidal; no foul language; brother cuts himself with broken mirror glass after breaking glass with his head, young girl dies of cancer, hero gets lymphoma and goes through endless recovery and remissions; romance, kissing, marriage, and married couple in bed together; no nudity; no alcohol; no smoking or drugs; and, some good arguments for atheism that should have been refuted better.

More Detail:

UNTIL FOREVER is a Christian romance that pulls at the heartstrings.

Michelle sees Michael teaching a martial arts class and is immediately smitten. Michael enlists the help of his brothers to court Michelle. Just when they bith agree they love each other, Michael comes down with lymphoma. At first, Michael thinks he’s in the hospital to bring other patients to Christ, but soon the little girl that Michael and Michelle befriend dies and a tough, grizzled elderly patient challenges Michael’s fairy tale religion. His atheist arguments are presented with wit, wisdom and zeal. Michael refutes them but clearly his faith is undergoing severe challenges. So is Michelle’s.

The jeopardy is increased when Michael’s brother, Matt, loses his girlfriend and feels nobody cares for him since all the attention is on Michael. So, Matt tries to commit suicide several times.

So, the questions remain. Will Michael and Michelle get married? Will Michael recover? Will Matt commit suicide? Will the elderly patient convert to Christ?

Based on a true story, UNTIL FOREVER is a sweet, winsome movie. Michael is a very compelling hero, especially in the midst of a very difficult plot about the ravages of cancer. He is able to pull the story together and keep it from becoming maudlin and melodramatic. The other actors are good but not great, and some look like they shouldn’t be in the movie.

Regrettably, UNTIL FOREVER has too much static dialogue rather than dialogue that produces rising conflict. Because of the dialogue’s static nature, there’s some jumping conflict to move the plot forward. Also, the lack of dynamic character arcs makes the movie seem longer than it really is. Finally, some of the atheist’s arguments are way too compelling and not answered in a powerful way. So, the movie opens up more doubts than faith in the audience.

However, UNTIL FOREVER is evangelistic and faithful. It’s also entertaining and compelling, and much of it is highly commendable.
