Where and How Can You Take It With You?

Does your future matter?
If you believe that everything is matter, then your future doesn’t matter, and you don’t matter, because you are just the random stuff that came together by accident with no purpose at all. This materialism is the reason that Hitler and Stalin could kill millions of people and just consider it getting rid of the trash, many of whom were the intellectuals who didn’t understand the consequences of a worldview where everything is just matter.
On the other hand, if you believe everything is just part of a great thought, coming out of whatever significant nominalistic being exists, whether it’s Gaia or Brahmin, then you don’t matter because you’re just an illusion and your future is to merge back into the monism or dualism.
Christians and Jews believe, however, that we have incredible worth because we’re created in the image of God, and Christians believe we have even more worth because Jesus loved each of us so much that He, the infinitely valuable Creator, died, resurrected and ascended to set us free and give us all a more abundant life (John 10:10). That abundant life includes a future and a hope.
Anyone with any sense knows that that future hope cannot be all the things we accumulate. Or, as the joke goes, we can’t take a U-Haul stuffed with all of our valuables to Heaven. The only thing we can take to Heaven are the friends that we help to know the redemptive power of God’s gracious love, which is just to bless them, and those who realize that, as the Psalmist says, the fruit of the womb is a reward from the Lord (Psalm 127:3).
If , however, the fruit of the womb is just a blob of matter, as the materialists claim, then of course it doesn’t matter, but neither do you! But, if a pre-born child is created in the image of God, and if you’re created in the image of God, then each of us has tremendous value, whether we are a baby in the womb, or an adult, or elderly, or physically or otherwise challenged.
So, your position on your substance has an impact on your view regarding the future of your children and grandchildren. If you totally rule yourself out as having any value, then you should persist in perpetrating the killing fields of Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Mao, Maduro, and others who see no value in anyone.
However, if you think you have any value, you can add to that value redemption by asking Jesus to come into your heart and then give thanks to Jesus if He gives you the ultimate reward from the Lord.
