More Detail:

In MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL, Maleficent is at war with the humans when Philip proposes to Aurora, but Philip’s mother is rude to her, so Maleficent gets angry at the mother and curses Philip’s father. MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL is very entertaining, with incredible visuals and costuming, and some positive moral elements, but it also has some magic and mysticism set in a fairy tale world.

As the movie opens, Aurora is all grown up and is Queen of the Moors land where the fairies, trolls and other magical creatures reside. When Phillip comes to see her, she’s delighted, and he proposes to her on the spot. This marriage would create a wonderful union between the humans and Aurora’s magical kingdom. Phillip tells his parents that Aurora said yes, and his mother tells Philip to invite Maleficent and Aurora to the house.

Maleficent is not excited that Aurora and Philip are engaged, but she decides to be cordial and meet Philip’s parents, because she loves Aurora. Philip’s mother, Queen Ingrith, however, hates Maleficent and is extremely rude to her when she comes to dinner. Maleficent becomes furious and puts a curse on Philip’s father. Aurora is saddened that Maleficent would do that and stays by the King’s side, instead of taking Maleficent’s side.

Maleficent flies away from the Castle, but one of Queen Ingrith’s attendants tries to shoot her down and hits her. Maleficent is wounded and falls into a waterfall in the raging river.

Suddenly, Maleficent is saved by a man who has wings like she does. He reveals to her that there are people like her in the world. These same people want to start a war with the humans, to which Maleficent agrees after being hurt so badly by Philip’s mother.

MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL is very entertaining. The movie has incredible visuals and costumes, with some strong Christian, moral, pro-life elements. For example, a Christian wedding with an archbishop is shown, and the movie promotes sacrifice, love and protecting the innocent.

However, MISTRESS OF EVIL also has some magic and mysticism. The movie exists within a fairy tale world, with magical creatures. At one point, Maleficent meets with a group of people to do some ritualistic mystical ceremonies. During this sequence, a man dies and the power from him goes into Maleficent. Also, there are some environmentalist elements about humans destroying nature and some politically correct elements against using guns. Finally, MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL has some fantasy violence and may be very scary for children. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong caution.
