HOOK - 3/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
The movie HOOK, the sequel to PETER PAN, brings back the villainous Captain Hook to wreak revenge on Peter's children and shows a grown-up Peter, who is stressed out and needs to return to Never Never Land. The film contains sword fight violence, some sexual innuendo, a slightly tipsy Peter, and is probably too long for some small children to manage, although it does exhibit elaborate sets and excellent acting on the part of Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook and Robin Williams as Peter.

SPACE JAM - 3/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
SPACE JAM is a mix of live action and animation featuring the Looney Tune characters and basketball great Michael Jordan. When Bugs Bunny challenges a group of little aliens who have come to make slaves of the toons to a basketball game, only Michael Jordan can help the toons get out of a jam. Fast-paced, well-executed and moral, it has prayers and a church scene, but is marred by an all-too-believable seance scene.

HUGO - 3/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
HUGO follows the story of a young teenage boy who lives in the train station of Paris in 1930 and unlocks a secret that transforms his life and the crotchety godfather of his new friend, Isabelle. HUGO imaginatively presents the intelligent design argument for God and is filled with a childlike sense of wonder, adventure, and comedy and has an uplifting, redemptive ending, although there’s no mention of God other than iconography. Also, there are a few scary moments that require caution for younger children.

Disney+ - 3/15/2020

DR. DOLITTLE 2 - 3/1/2020

Quality:
**
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
DR. DOLITTLE 2 stars Eddie Murphy, who tries to save a local forest from developers by finding a mate for an endangered bear. An incredible amount of bathroom humor and lightweight sexual jokes spoil this movie, which runs out of steam at the end.

ICE AGE - 3/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
ICE AGE, an animated comedy/adventure, tells what happens when a mammoth and a sloth escaping the ice age are forced together to rescue a human baby. Though scattered with politically correct elements and some overt slapstick cartoon violence, ICE AGE has some positive moral elements and should be a big hit with all but the very, very young or easily frightened.

G-FORCE - 3/15/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
+3 Some minor questionable elements. (Media-wisdom is suggested to discuss.)
G-FORCE is the story of three guinea pigs and a mole that are trained by scientist to become FBI Special Agents called the G-Force. Though banished to a pet store, they must foil an evil plot to destroy the world. G-FORCE is a delightful, fast paced action comedy that has much to offer family audiences.

Amazon Prime - 3/1/2020

SNOW DOGS - 3/8/2020

Quality:
***
Content:
+2 Moderately questionable elements.
When a Miami dentist inherits a team of sled dogs in Disney’s new comedy, SNOW DOGS, he’s got to learn the trade or lose his pack to a crusty mountain man. Loaded with great laughs for the kids and compelling and challenging heart issues for adults, SNOW DOGS is very cute and funny.

KUNG FU PANDA - 3/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
KUNG FU PANDA is a very funny, very exciting and very clean animated movie about a chubby, disheveled, but warm-hearted panda who is the only one standing in the way of an evil, treacherous snow leopard threatening his village. The movie extols personal themes and character traits espousing virtue, honor, loyalty, and sacrifice, but contains some non-specific Eastern mysticism and violence, so it requires caution for younger children.
