More Detail:

THE INCOHERENTS follows the story of four men in their mid 40s who reunite to restart their old 90s indie rock band, wherein they must navigate a new rock scene while maintaining careers, marriages and/or children. THE INCOHERENTS has a light moral, redemptive worldview promoting marriage, friends, forgiveness, and reunion, but has lots of strong foul language, some lewd moments and an abundance of partying at nightclubs with alcohol and live music.

THE INCOHERENTS begins by showing the main character, Bruce, daydreaming at his office job about his 1990s rock band “The Incoherents.” For an unknown reason, Bruce suddenly broke up the band in 1995, and he’s been regretting it ever since. When Bruce comes home from work, he spends all night in his basement writing lyrics and songs. Bruce decides he’s tired of his mundane lifestyle and calls his old bandmates, Jimmy, Tyler and Tyler’s brother Keith, to reunite the band.

The band agrees to meet, and they start rehearsing. Things have changed in the music scene, however. The bands are younger and use social media to attract fans. Also, Bruce’s wife decides to follow her dreams of graphic design, and the two agree not to interfere in one another’s paths.

The Incoherents gets their first gig at a small bar in New York City. The first show doesn’t go well, and the band decides to hire a manager. They hire an old friend Jules, who steers them toward different venues, and the band starts meshing again. The Incoherents get a gig in Boston, but Bruce and his wife both have prior engagements. Bruce lies to his wife that he has a work seminar so that he can perform in Boston, but she finds out and kicks him out of the house.

In Boston, a young woman introduces herself to Jimmy and tells them she wants to have an interview with them for her blog. She also has a connection who works at a record label and assigns bands to play in festivals. Eventually, the Incoherents get a chance to audition for the last spot at the biggest festival in New York City, but they have to compete against five other bands for the chance to play at the festival.

Will The Incoherents win the last festival slot? Will Bruce patch things up with his wife?

THE INCOHERENTS has an interesting storyline and some good rock music. There are some funny comical moments, but the story sometimes drags. THE INCOHERENTS has a light moral, redemptive worldview promoting friendship, reunion, marriage, and forgiveness. For example, Bruce reconciles with his band members after many years of not speaking to one another and eventually patches things up with his lead guitarist, Jimmy. Also, Bruce and his wife eventually try to work through their problems. However, THE INCOHERENTS has lots of strong foul language, some lewd moments and an abundance of partying at nightclubs with alcohol and live music. MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.
