What You Need To Know:

MY BROTHER’S CROSSING tells the true story of C.J. Martin, an African American pastor, and J.T. Clark, an unbelieving caucasion man, as their paths cross after a tragic accident involving Martin in August 2015.  The movie takes place shortly after Ferguson and the racial unrest during the Missouri riots in August 2014. Estranged from his Christian family, Clark feels convicted of his previous beliefs about love, forgiveness and, ultimately, his faith. Meanwhile, Martin struggles with feelings of guilt and fear as the community begins to take sides for and against him. Martin must choose between letting doubt overtake him or accepting forgiveness from an unlikely source.

MY BROTHER’S CROSSING is an inspiring story about the power of forgiveness. It stresses the importance of God, attending church, Scripture, prayer, and loving your neighbor. The movie explores the racial tension in Virginia following Ferguson and the Missouri riots of August 2014, and its impact on Clark and Martin’s story. The movie contains some editing and sound mistakes, but the inspirational true story and focus of Jesus allows MY BROTHER’S CROSSING to explore many Christian themes endearingly. Due to some violence and depictions of riots, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.

More Detail:

MY BROTHER’S CROSSING tells the true story of C.J. Martin and J.T. Clark as they build an unlikely friendship in the wake of a tragic accident.

The movie opens with a brief montage of the riots and civil unrest after the events of Ferguson and the Missouri riots in August 2014. Fast forward to August 2015 in Virginia and J.T. Clark, an EMS manager, narrates his long-term struggle with depression, and how his wife Terri Lee’s love and support taught him about life and how to, eventually, show love and support to others.

The movie cuts to J.T. getting ready to leave for work, and he seems frazzled. His wife asks him what’s weighing on him, and there’s a mention of a trial which triggers a flashback to a football game on August 21, 2015.

J.T. and a friend walk out of a restaurant and notice that an ambulance is on fire. The two take little notice and head for home. C.J. Martin, a prominent black preacher in Martinsville, Virginia, and his son, are getting dinner after the football game at the same restaurant. On the way home, Martin tells his son to eat whatever his mom prepared for dinner, even though they already went out to eat. Before Martin can react, he collides his car with a motorcycle and its two riders.

A pastor from T.R.A.S.H. ministries and many of the congregation, who are also bikers, come to check on the people involved in the accident. Unfortunately, both cyclists were killed, but the pastor from T.R.A.S.H. does the unthinkable by walking over to Martin and praying for him. The Martin family and the paramedics are astonished.

Later that night, Clark receives a call from his mother, sharing the tragic news that Bobby Clark’s brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Pam Clark, were the bikers killed. The movie flashes back to a conversation that J.T. had with Bobby. Most of Clark’s family are Christians, including his wife Terri Lee, but he doesn’t follow the same beliefs.

Many of Clark’s family members follow the pastor’s example and show Christian forgiveness to Martin, even inviting them to share a meal. With racial tensions at a high pitch, Martin not only feels guilty for the accident but must face his doubts and fears about the Caucasian community harassing him. Estranged from his family, Clark must support his mother and family, who challenge his preconceptions about faith, love and forgiveness.
