The TODAY show’s co-host and weatherman Al Roker said he plans to return to the NBC morning show after his prostate surgery.

Roker, 66, underwent a five-hour surgery to remove his prostate and the surrounding tissue and lymph nodes on Nov. 9. However, Roker announced to viewers that his prognosis after the prostate surgery is “excellent.”

Roker’s fellow NBC meteorologist Dylan Dryer previously asked for prayers for her mentor.

Roker made a brief appearance on the TODAY show to give his health update.

“It was this great relief. For a first start, this is terrific news. I’m going to be up for—and a lot of people who live with cancer—up for lifelong testing to make sure this doesn’t come back,” Roker said.

Roker, who typically covers the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, said he hopes to be back on TODAY in time for the network’s coverage event, which is a holiday tradition for many families.

Although the parade will look different due to the coronavirus, Roker assured viewers it will still occur.

Dr. Vincent Laudone, Roker’s surgeon, joined the meteorologist on the show and said: “The prognosis at this point in time based on how the surgery went and based on his pathology report, everything looks very favorable. We would say that Al has no evidence of any cancer, but we’ll continue to monitor him for several years.”

Roker, who went back home just a day after his surgery, went on a walk only two days later.

“I feel good,” Roker added. “The technology has gotten so good – they did it with a robot – that I felt much better after the surgery than I did with any of my joint replacements.”
