How Gospel Singer Tamela Mann Relies on Scripture: ‘He Speaks To My Heart Through His Word’

By Movieguide® Contributor

In a recent interview with Guideposts, Gospel singer Tamela Mann opened up about her favorite Bible verse and the best advice she’s ever received.

Mann is all about positive thinking and relies on the truth found in scripture and prayer.

Mann said her favorite Bible verses are Matthew 19:26 and Mark 9:23, which she often remembers together.

“‘With God, all things are possible to them that believe,’ which is actually a combination of two verses (Matthew 19:26 and Mark 9:23),” she wrote. “The Lord responds through our faith. When I started believing for an answer to what I prayed, I could see my prayers coming to life.”

Mann also cited her husband as her “real-life superman… He gives me accountability when I’m wrong, to better myself. He has helped me to become the Tamela I am today, with God’s help.”

Prayer is an integral part of Mann’s daily routine. Mann said she tries to fill her time alone in the car with prayer and thanksgiving.

“Prayer is like therapy for me,” Mann said. “I can express myself to God and talk with him. I know that even if he doesn’t answer right away, he’s working. He speaks to my heart through his word, songs and even other people. Sometimes he uses time or another person to give me confirmation about my prayers or see the answer that I’m looking for when I can’t see it for myself.”

Mann gave out some good advice in her interview, but what about the best advice she’s received?

“Change the things that are within your power to change, and don’t worry about the things you can’t change,” the singer shared.

Movieguide® previously reported on the release of Mann’s album:

Mann’s most recent album, Overcomer, speaks to her overcoming some of her physical health battles.

“This album is based off a lot of things that I have been dealing with over the last five or six years,” Mann said. “One would be my double knee surgery, then I got on the journey of health and wellness… but part of the journey is to overcome.

“This part of the journey, I’ve been praying and asking the Lord, of course, it’s an everyday task [of], ‘Lord, I need help. If you could just help me help myself do better.’ Even with my relationship with Him just being close with the Lord. So that’s kind of how Overcomer came about.”

While she did not have a solid earthly father, Mann also shared that she lives to glorify her heavenly father.

“For me, it comes from a place of not having an earthly father, and not wanting to let my Heavenly Father down. So the purity for me is to make Him proud, … to make Him proud in what He sees me doing,” she said. “I just thank Him, and I constantly ask the Lord to keep the burning and the fire, just like I do for my relationship with my husband. It’s been 33 years. I’m like, ‘Lord, keep my eyes on You, keep my eyes on him, and to desire nobody else but him and You.’ I know the Lord is my first love and I keep myself in that place of thinking.”
