Mark Wahlberg Congratulates Former New England Patriot Tom Brady After Retirement

By Movieguide® Staff

Actor and Boston native Mark Wahlberg congratulated NFL star Tom Brady on a successful career after the former New England Patriots quarterback confirmed his retirement.

After 22 seasons in the league and seven Super Bowl wins—which is the most by any player—Brady said he would not come back to the field.

“Very happy for him,” Wahlberg, 50, told PEOPLE (THE TV SHOW!). “I think he’s done so much for football, certainly for New England, even for Tampa,” Wahlberg said, referencing his final two years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “It’s nice for him to go out on his own terms and go and enjoy the rest of his life. And many, many great things to come from him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t go conquer the world and become the GOAT at something else.”

“He’ll always be a Patriot,” Wahlberg added. “I don’t think one season, one championship, or two seasons in Tampa is going to take away from the legacy and his mark that he put on New England and in the NFL as a whole. So he’ll always be a Patriot.”

Wahlberg will star in the upcoming faith-filled movie FATHER STU, alongside Mel Gibson.

Movieguide® previously reported that Brady announced his retirement and shared that he looked forward to spending time with his family:

Future NFL Hall of Famer and seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady announced his official retirement from professional football.

Although Brady is arguably the best quarterback to play in the history of the NFL, he said that his greatest achievement is his family.

“Our family is my greatest achievement. I always came off the field and home to the most loving and supportive wife who has done everything for our family to allow me to focus on my career. Her selflessness allowed me to reach new heights professionally, and I am beyond words what you mean to me and our family,” he said.
