Dolly Parton is ‘Respectfully’ Bowing Out Of Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame Nomination

In a recent announcement, country icon Dolly Parton said she decided to bow out of this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame list of nominees.

Parton decided to exit to ensure that she would not split votes for the other nominees.

“Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right,” she wrote in a statement posted to social media. “I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”

The Movieguide® Grace Prize® winner was nominated alongside artists like Eminem, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Kate Bush, and DEVO, among many others.

“I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again — if I’m ever worthy,” Parton continued.

“This has however inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock ‘n’ roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do! My husband is a total rock ‘n’ roll freak, and has always encouraged me to do one,” she continued. “I wish all of the nominees good luck and thank you again for the compliment Rock on!”

Despite Parton’s label as a country artist, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Hank Williams have all received their place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Movieguide® previously reported on Parton’s nomination:

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame recently announced the nominees for 2022, and country superstar Dolly Parton finally made the list.

“This year’s ballot recognizes a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture,” John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement. “Their music not only moved generations, but also influenced the sound of countless artists that followed.”

The Movieguide® Grace Prize® winner shares the ballot with other first-time nominees including Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon.

Parton solidified herself as a household name early in her career through her iconic list of songs, movies, and TV appearances.
