SCHINDLER’S LIST Star Helps Ukrainian Refugees, Asks Others To Lend A Hand

Oliwia Dabrowska, the child actor who played the iconic girl with the red coat in the critically acclaimed movie SCHINDLER’S LIST, is living out the spirit of the movie and helping Ukrainian refugees.

SCHINDLER’S LIST told the story of a Nazi party member who helped thousands of Jewish people escape death during World War II. Dabrowska, who is now 32, took the movie’s message to heart and called on others to help Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion.

The former actress shared a picture of herself from the movie but replaced the famous red coat with blue, in honor of Ukraine.

“She was always the symbol of hope,” Dabrowska captioned her post. “Let her be it again.”

Dabrowska also went to the Polish-Ukrainian border to help stranded refugees.

“We need your help here at the Polish-Ukrainian border,” she wrote. “Every little bit helps: we need material and financial donations, you can also volunteer to help out in person. The situation is dramatic; I’m also a volunteer here, at the border, and I’ve seen it with my own eyes…”

Dabrowska also wrote about her encounter with a Ukrainian mother and her two children who needed to be transported to a city near the German border.

“Usually we transport refugees in our area, but this time we couldn’t just say ‘no’. They were desperate to get to their sister. Those kids…my God, I can barely hold back my tears,” she wrote

“I can’t tell you everything I saw there, because I don’t have rigth [sic] words in my mind…Nobody, who have never seen this, can’t imagine this nightmare in eyes of those people.”

Movieguide® has previously reported on other’s efforts to help those impacted by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict:

The war in Ukraine has left countless people stranded and desperate for help with evacuation, and people with disabilities are among the most vulnerable.

Faith-based ministry Joni and Friends is stepping in to bridge the gap for many of the 2.7 million persons living with disabilities in Ukraine who might have otherwise been left behind. Founded by Christian author, speaker, and radio host Joni Eareckson-Tada, Joni and Friends has helped 250 people reach Poland since the start of the war and plans to escort more to safe locations around the globe as conditions allow.

According to CBN News, Joni and Friends is planning to rescue an additional 50 people with disabilities and their caregivers in Eastern Ukraine on Friday, March 25, organized by Galyna, their In-Country Coordinator in Ukraine.
