The Judd Sisters Recited Psalm 23 With Mother Naomi Judd Before She Died

By Movieguide® Contributor

Country music legend Naomi Judd died this weekend at the age of 76, just one day before her induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Her daughters, Wynonna and Ashley, appeared at the ceremony to accept their mother’s posthumous award and share their final moments with their mother.

Wynonna said that Naomi died early in the morning, just after reciting Psalm 23 together:

The LORD is my shepherd; I have what I need.

He lets me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters.

He renews my life; he leads me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Even when I go through the darkest valley,

I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff — they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD as long as I live.

Naomi’s death comes just a few weeks after she and Wynonna performed 1990 hit “Love Can Build A Bridge” at this year’s CMT Music Awards show.

Ashley and Wynonna’s statement announcing the death of their mother reads:

“Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that, as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.”
