Michigan high-school student Ava Swiss got a resounding green light for the next round of the singing competition show America’s Got Talent after wowing all four of the show’s judges.

“In life, it’s tough to show up, especially after going through incredible trauma,” AGT Judge Howie Mandel told the 18-year-old singer. “The fact that you can break through that and shine the way you did today is so inspirational for every human being. So, you really shined.”

Swiss is a senior at Oxford High School where there was a fatal shooting in November of 2021. Four students were killed and seven other people were
injured.

When Simon Cowell asked how she coped with that tragedy, Swiss responded that she is doing better and was able to return to the school even after she and her brother said “there was no way we were ever
stepping foot back in the school.”

Swiss sang a rendition of popular Christian artist Lauren Daigle’s song, “Remember.” Swiss said that the song helped her through the healing process.

“When I sing it, I remember the good. I remember my community, my family, just the love,” Swiss said. “And I remember that it’s all there for me, and it’ll help me
get to where I need to be.”

After her performance, Swiss posted a short response to the news she was moving forward in the hit competition on her Instagram.

“I just got four yeses on AGT… and not mad about it,” Swiss said with a chuckle adding in the caption, “it is a moment which I will never forget.”

In another post, Swiss sang a tribute to the victims of the shooting, with the song, “Rise Up,” by Andra Day.
