Candace Cameron Bure on Faith Films: ‘I Want To Make Movies That Have Depth, Purpose, Meaning’

Actress Candace Cameron Bure recently shared how her desire to promote faith is at the heart of her latest Christmas movie, A CHRISTMAS… PRESENT.
Bure said that she hopes her new movie, which is set to debut on Great American Family and is also available to stream on PureFlix, inspires viewers to find hope in Christ.
“The biggest theme that is most important to me in this film is the theme of God in our lives and the Christian faith,” Bure told Faithwire in a recent interview. “This is a Christmas movie that actually talks about Christ, and that’s another major theme that I have … never been able to talk about at length in my Christmas films.”
While Bure is best known for the sitcom FULL HOUSE, as well as a myriad of Hallmark romance movies, she said that she wants to do more projects with purposeful messages in the future.
“Listen, I love … the big city girl and the small town country boy Christmas movies. I love them. I’m going to continue to make those kinds of movies,” Bure said. “But I also want to make movies that have depth and purpose and meaning that can actually change someone’s life.”
A CHRISTMAS… PRESENT is exactly what Bure had hoped for in regard to her next projects.
“This is about a married woman and her family, and her marriage is not where she wishes it would be, and her husband isn’t feeling it, either … and they have some things to talk about,” she said. “And yet [with] the busyness, it’s very easy to sweep it under the rug and just let life pass you by and never really tackle some of the hard conversations.”
The former Movieguide® Awards host said that her latest Christmas movie is also about relying on faith amidst trials.
“She goes to [her brother] to help make sure that [he] has this really incredible Christmas, because he’s recently lost his wife,” Bure said of the plot line. “But what happens is that Maggie and her family really learn the importance of being together and valuing relationships over busyness.”
A CHRISTMAS… PRESENT is also one of Bure’s first projects with her new position at Great American Family.
“I want to contribute to the overall aesthetic look and feel of the network itself and then along with curating content for the channel,” the actress and producer said.
Also known as the ‘Queen of Christmas,’ Bure has not shied away from other Christmas projects for this holiday season, and recently starred in an animated feature called REINDEER IN HERE.
