DAREDEVIL’s Charlie Cox Predicts Less Violence In New Show, Wants To ‘Appeal To A Younger Audience’

DAREDEVIL fans are looking forward to the upcoming Disney+ series DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN, but what can they expect from the new show?

Charlie Cox, who stars as lawyer Matt Murdock and vigilante Daredevil, shared some of his predictions about the upcoming series.

Cox reassured fans that the new show will share similarities with DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN, but that Disney+ will definitely put their own mark on the superhero.

“This character works best when he’s geared toward a slightly more mature audience,” the actor explained. “[But] my instinct is that on Disney+ it will be dark but it probably won’t be as gory.”

Cox acknowledged that some fans will be disappointed by any changes, but was quick to point out that it’s time to do something new with the characters.

“I would say to those people, we’ve done that. Let’s take the things that really worked, but can we broaden?” he explained. “Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?”

The original series was nominated for an Epiphany Prize® for Most Inspiring TV Program, but many viewers were turned off by the excessive violence in the show. By removing much of the violence, Disney+ and DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN will bring in a larger audience and will no doubt outperform the original series.

Movieguide® previously reported on Cox’s return to the MCU for DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN:

Matt Murdock hasn’t retired just yet. Charlie Cox will officially return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the blind lawyer-turned-superhero in Disney+’s upcoming DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN series.

According to Deadline, the series will have 18 episodes, with Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returning as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Kingpin, respectively.

Netflix’s DAREDEVIL was canceled in 2018, but Cox made a brief cameo in SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME. This, plus D’Onofrio’s appearance in Disney+’s HAWKEYE, made many fans wonder if the characters would be returning to their screens.

Cox is also confirmed to appear as Daredevil in the upcoming shows SHE-HULK and ECHO, as well as voice the character in SPIDER-MAN: FRESHMAN YEAR.

DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN is set to drop on Disney+ in 2024.

The title, itself, could be intriguing to media-wise viewers who know that Murdock often wrestles with his Catholic faith. In the Bible, the term “born again,” is what Jesus told the rich young ruler must happen in order for him to inherit the Kingdom of God.

The DAREDEVIL Season 3 episode, “A New Napkin,” was nominated for multiple Movieguide® Awards for its strong faith content.
