COCAINE BEAR is a gory horror comedy about a bear who devours cocaine dropped by drug dealers from a plane into a national park in Georgia. The bear starts attacking visitors and two people working at the park. The visitors include a divorced mother looking for her 12-year-old daughter who skipped school, two foreign tourists, three juvenile delinquents who’ve been mugging people in the park, and two henchman from the drug lord trying to retrieve the cocaine.

COCAINE BEAR has a funny concept inspired by a true story. Sadly, much of the comedy in COCAINE BEAR depends on gory, gruesome bear attacks and jokes about cocaine. The movie inserts a comedy bit where the two 12-year-olds find a pack of the cocaine and decide to eat a handful. The movie is also rife with lots of strong foul language. It should be noted, though, that the mean drug lord gets his just deserts, and the mother is trying to save her young daughter and her daughter’s friend. Most of the content in COCAINE BEAR, however, is excessive and too objectionable and unacceptable.

Light moral worldview, in a comical setting, includes scenes where a mother is trying to find and save her young daughter from a vicious bear hopped up on cocaine, man stands up to his mean father who’s a violent drug lord and afraid of his superiors in the illegal drug trade, and there’s a police detective who’s trying to bring the drug lord to justice, marred by a strong pagan emphasis trying to achieve laughs through gruesome bear attacks and jokes about cocaine, including some cocaine jokes involving two 12-year-old children

95 obscenities (about half or more are “f” words), one Jesus profanity, three GD profanities, and six light profanities such as OG and OMG

Violence:

Extreme bloody, gruesome and gory violence with some strong and light violence includes woman accidentally shoots young man in the head and pieces of his head and brain splatter another young man’s face and a bear’s face and body, one man finds the decapitated head of a man, bear is seen eating two or three victims, two bear cubs are seen pulling out and eating the entrails of one victim, villain deliberately shoots a man in the stomach, and he dies, victim on a stretcher in a speeding ambulance is thrown from the ambulance and lands upside down on the road with a pool of blood forming around her dead body, character is thrown form a vehicle, man’s bloody leg falls to the ground after the cocaine bear attacks him while he’s trying to hide up in tree, other bloody scenes involving bear attacks, man trying to parachute out of a plane accidentally hits his head while he’s leaving the plane, and his dead body and body parts are later found in someone’s suburban driveway and yard because he was unconscious when he was supposed to open his chute while he was falling, mean villain kicks two bear cubs who got into his cocaine stash, criminal beats up three thugs who try to mug him with a knife, etc.

Sex:

No sex scenes, but an older woman and man apparently have planned an excursion into the woods to fornicate (their journey is interrupted by the cocaine-addled bear)

Upper male nudity when a man takes off an unconscious young man’s T-shirt to staunch a bloody knife wound

Brief smoking and many jokes about drug dealers hiding packs of cocaine in a national park after dumping them out of a plane, and about a mama bear and her two cubs getting into the drugs and getting high, with the mama bear going into a rage because of consuming the cocaine and viciously attacking and eating visitors to the park and workers at the park, including jokes in one scene about two young teenagers, a boy and a girl, finding a pack of the cocaine, and each of them trying to eat a handful of it then spitting it out, but the mama bear encounters them and, with cocaine on her nose, sneezes into the boy’s face, and there’s a joke later when the boy tells his friend’s mother that he now should go to rehab; and,

Miscellaneous Immorality:

Young man steals minor items from counter in a store at a national park, he and his two young cohorts try to steal from man who works for a drug dealer, it’s said that the three young men have been mugging visitors to the park, some lying.

COCAINE BEAR is a gory horror comedy about a bear who gets into packs of cocaine dropped by drug dealers from a plane into a national park in Georgia and starts attacking a park ranger and visitors to the park, including two men trying to retrieve the cocaine. COCAINE BEAR is a funny concept, but it’s filled with many strong obscenities and profanities, and much of the comedy depends on gruesome bear attacks and jokes about cocaine, including some cocaine jokes involving a 12-year-old boy and girl who run into the bear and the cocaine.

The movie opens on a cargo plane flying through a night sky. A man inside the plane starts happily throwing out packs of cocaine while the plane’s flying above Chattahoochee National Park in Georgia, home to Blood Mountain. The man puts on a parachute, but just before he exits the plane, he accidentally hits his head. Now unconscious, the man’s body flies out the plane’s door.

Cut to a divorced single mother, Sari, saying goodnight to her 12-year-old daughter, Dee Dee, while she leaves the house to do the night shift at a hospital. Before she leaves, however, she tells Dee Dee that her boyfriend, Ray, has invited them to visit him instead of going hiking at Blood Mountain to paint a nearby waterfall. Dee Dee is upset, but Sari promises they’ll go to Blood Mountain the next weekend.

However, Dee Dee’s mother won’t be back before Dee Dee leaves for school. So, Dee Dee’s friend, Harry, comes over to their house so that he and Dee Dee can skip school and hike to the park.

Meanwhile, at the park, a large black bear has gotten into the cocaine. The cocaine addled bear attacks a foreign couple who’ve just gotten engaged. The bear takes and kills the woman, but the man gets away.

At roughly the same time, the dead body of the guy parachuting out of the plane is found in a suburban driveway in Knoxville, Tenn. The police find a pack of the cocaine on his person. A local police detective named Bob thinks the cocaine belongs to a local drug lord named Syd, who’s been a thorn in Bob’s side for years. He believes Syd is dropping the cocaine in Chattahoochee and having his men pick it up later. So, he starts driving to the park, despite the fact that the park is out of his jurisdiction.

Syd learns about his henchman’s dead body being found, but he’s stuck babysitting his grandson at some kind of Chuck E. Cheese outlet in St. Louis. Syd orders his right-hand man, Daveed, to go get his son, Eddie, who’s still grieving the loss of his wife to cancer. Syd figures, if he’s stuck babysitting Eddie’s son, the least Eddie can do is help Daveed retrieve the cocaine from the park.

Everyone converges at the park, including Dee Dee’s mother who goes to find her daughter when the school calls her up and says Dee Dee skipped school. Before her mother arrives, however, Dee Dee and Henry found a pack of the cocaine. Henry brags to Dee Dee that he’s been using cocaine with one of the tough guys at their school. So, Dee Dee breaks open the pack and tries to swallow a handful of the white powder but spits it out in disgust. Just then, the cocaine addled bear shows up and drags Dee Dee off into the brush.

When Dee Dee’s mother, Sari, arrives at the park headquarters, she heads to Blood Mountain with the park ranger and the ranger’s boyfriend, a PETA inspector. They soon come upon Henry perched high in a tree. He tries to warn them about the bear, but they don’t know what he’s talking about. The bear shows up and wounds the park ranger, who escapes and runs off to call 911. The bear at first tries to get to Henry, but its attention is distracted by the PETA inspector, who’s climbed up another tree.

While the bear’s mauling the PETA guy, Henry and Sari run off in the opposite direction. Sari asks Henry to help her find Dee Dee. So, the question becomes, will Sari find her daughter, hopefully still alive? Also, what will happen when Syd’s son and henchman arrive at the park, along with Bob, the police detective? Finally, will the park ranger be able to get any help?

COCAINE BEAR has a funny concept that’s inspired by a true story about an infamous “cocaine cowboy” who used to fly cocaine into the United States in 1985 to dump packs of the drug into wilderness areas throughout the Southeastern United States, to be retrieved later. On one such flight on Sept. 11 in 1985, the man had to jump out of the plane for some unknown reason, but loaded himself down with too much stuff and died when his main chute and his backup chute didn’t open properly. Four months later, the dead body of a small black bear was found, its body filled to capacity with cocaine. The movie’s screenwriter asked what would happen if the bear survived, weighed 500 pounds and started killing a lot of people while it was hopped up on cocaine.

Sadly, much of the comedy in COCAINE BEAR depends on gory, gruesome bear attacks and jokes about cocaine. Also, in one scene, the movie inserts a comedy bit where the two 12-year-olds find a pack of the cocaine and decide to eat a handful of the white powder. Although they spit it out, the bear suddenly shows up and sneezes into the boy’s face, blowing cocaine powder everywhere. The movie is also rife with lots of strong foul language.

So, although the mean drug lord gets his just deserts, and the mother is trying to save her young daughter, MOVIEGUIDE® finds most of the content and comedy in COCAINE BEAR to be excessive and too objectionable and unacceptable.
