More Detail:

In keeping with original HIGHLANDER tradition, the latest saga, HIGHLANDER: THE FINAL DIMENSION, goes back to basics and supersedes the second film to pick up where the first motion picture left off. Conner MacLeod (played by Christopher Lambert in all the HIGHLANDER movies), who supposedly defeated the strongest of all the other immortals in the first film, continues his quest for “The Prize” in this latest installment. Mistaken about being the last immortal, MacLeod finds himself being hunted by Kane (Mario Van Peebles), an old enemy and the immortal who killed his mentor and obtained his immense powers. The final battle is wrought with swordplay and illusory tricks (allowing the FX team to showcase their talents). Who wins? Well, since the second movie precedes this one, it should be no surprise. The only question left is what exactly is “the prize” and will MacLeod ever get it?

Thankfully, HIGHLANDER: THE FINAL DIMENSION is much better than the last movie, with Van Peebles at times outshining Lambert and turning in an excellent performance definitely ranking in the top three of all-time best HIGHLANDER bad guys. With excellent writing and directing, this movie keeps the quality and integrity of the original without the excessive foul language and brutality of the second feature. However, the movie does contain excessive violence and a pagan worldview.
