How THE BRADY BUNCH ‘Saved’ Star Christopher Knight

THE BRADY BUNCH star Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady, is sharing how much the sitcom impacted his life.

“Oddly, this show has grown in…profile and impact and importance over time,” Knight told Fox News. “So, looking back at it, it’s bigger than it was when we were living it. So, most of these epiphanies and revelations are not in doing this show but in looking back at it. And mine is that I was in part saved.”

Knight explained that his real-life family was nothing like the Bradys.

“My mom hated THE BRADY BUNCH,” Knight revealed.

Fox News added that Knight’s mother was an artist and his father was a stage actor. For them, television “was just a place you had to go to earn some money because real actors worked on stage.”

“My family is very educated and nearly homeless, and that’s how I grow up.” Knight said. “My dad, he was unemployed. Literally, his solution early when there wasn’t any money—and there was my brother and myself, 13 months apart—he said, ‘Feed them every other day.’ I think that’s when my mom said that she realized there might be a problem.”

Because his family was struggling financially, he “felt ‘pushed’ into becoming a child actor to support his family.”

“I’m feeling totally prostituted at that point by my mom,” Knight said. “I think in a way, I totally was, and by her own admission it was and that she was sorry about it.”

“I don’t know how many children from entertainment can say that, in fact, the entertainment industry saved them. It taught me the value of getting along,” he added. “And I don’t know if I would have learned that if I didn’t have the show to be embraced by and the environment to reflect on me that because it wasn’t at home. I’m a much better person as a result of the experience.”

“We’re like a family who live in different states and get together around the holidays,” he said previously about his BRADY BUNCH cast mates.

Knight’s latest project is a documentary that follows a girl with Williams syndrome “who was blessed with the superpower of love.”

In TRUELOVE: THE FILM,  “Callie travels across America to meet other individuals with Williams syndrome who get to tell their stories and showcase the wondrous effects of this rare genetic disorder. Callie’s goal is to spread her unique brand of unconditional love and awareness for Williams syndrome, while shining a light on these very pure and precious souls, so that together they can help to heal this fractured world,” a description of the film reads.

Movieguide® previously reported on THE BRADY BUNCH:

Though THE BRADY BUNCH only aired for five seasons, the sitcom’s stars say it still has a lasting impact in their hearts and for their fans.

“So, it was sometimes awkward and sometimes fun, but I’ve always enjoyed people watching the show,” Barry Williams, who played Greg, said in a recent interview...

“There were a lot of changes,” he said. “You could hear the voice changing, you could see the hair changing, you could see the growth spurts going on with all of us.”

Despite navigating adolescence while filming, Williams said he is thankful for the time on the show.

“We maintain our relationships, we’ve seen all the major events of our lives together: marriages, children sometimes marriages that split. Now our children are graduating,” he said. “We’ve always had a Brady family together. I’m fortunate that I’ve been able to diversify and do different things.”
