Paddington is returning to theaters in PADDINGTON IN PERU, the franchise’s third movie.

It is slated to release January 17, 2025.

“In the Dougal Wilson-directed picture, Paddington heads to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. With the Brown family in tow, adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and to the mountain peaks of Peru. Screenplay is by Mark Burton, Jon Foster and James Lamont. Story by Paul King, Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton based on the children’s stories by British author Michael Bond,” Deadline reported.

According to Variety, Wilson stated, “It’s been a joy and an honor to shoot PADDINGTON IN PERU with such a wonderful and talented cast and crew. I feel incredibly lucky to have been blessed with such a lovely group of people, many of whom have returned to the world of this beloved bear. We are also delighted to have welcomed Emily, Olivia, Antonio and Carla to the Paddington family.”

Sony Pictures announced on social media, “Adventure awaits! #PaddingtonInPeru is coming exclusively to theaters in 2025.”

Movieguide® previously celebrated the original PADDINGTON, with contributor David Outten writing:

PADDINGTON is one of the rare movies that features a father, a mother and their children in a rousing adventure. Each of the family members is charming in their own way and has the opportunity to do something heroic. The tension in the story is very similar to Pixar’s UP. Paddington is threatened by someone out to turn him into a stuffed museum display. His adopted family must save him.

This is the kind of movie we would like to see more of: high quality, family entertainment.

At the presentation, we saw previews for several upcoming animated movies. Most, I have no desire to take my grandchildren to see. I get tired of dark forests and villains that look like something out of a nightmare.

While Paddington, the bear, is obviously animated, the movie feels like a live action movie compared to Pixar, Disney and DreamWorks offerings. Does anyone remember the days of SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON when a live family could have a great adventure? PADDINGTON is that kind of movie.

A few cast changes have occurred for the third installment.

“There’s also been a cast switch, with Rachel Zegler now unable to join the film due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, according to StudioCanal. In her place, newcomer Carlo Tous will play the role of Gina Cabot. As previously announced, Sally Hawkins dropped out after two PADDINGTON appearances as Mrs. Brown, replaced by Emily Mortimer. Alongside returnees Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin and Jim Broadbent, Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas have joined the cast. Ben Whishaw and Imelda Staunton also return as the respective voices of Paddington and Aunt Lucy,” the Hollywood Reporter wrote.

Movieguide® has praised both PADDINGTON movies, selecting them as some of the Best Movies for Families at the Movieguide® Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry.

Part of Movieguide®’s review for PADDINGTON 2 reads:

PADDINGTON 2 is a delightful sequel to the 2015 hit comedy. When Paddington the Bear is falsely accused of stealing, the Brown family has to solve the mystery and fight to get him out of jail. The story starts when Paddington finds a wonderful pop-up book about London for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday. However, the book is expensive, so he decides to do odd jobs around the neighborhood to earn the money. Then, when the book is stolen, Paddington is mistaken for the thief. The Browns now have to find out who stole the book to free Paddington.

PADDINGTON 2 is an adorable, entertaining movie filled with family fun. It has a great script, with wonderful acting and animation. PADDINGTON 2 has a strong moral worldview, with strong pro-capitalist elements. No matter what, Paddington tries to do the right thing, with the right attitude. He is a fabulous character for children to see, because he’s always loving, compassionate, giving of himself, and super polite. The entire message is about loving your neighbor and seeing the good in everyone. MOVIEGUIDE® commends PADDINGTON 2 for the entire family.
