How Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Balances Physical and Spiritual Training

By Movieguide® Contributor

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is preparing herself for another shot at a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In an interview with Fit For The King, the track-and-field star discussed how she balances physical training with spiritual training.

“More so now than ever, but I think growing up the idea of perseverance and working towards a goal and every day becoming better and wanting to learn, I truly believe that coincides so much with my walk with God and pushing towards hearing the ‘Well done my good and faithful servant,'” she began.

McLaughlin-Levrone then quoted 1 Corinthians 10:31, which reads, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

“I think that…now motivates me in track. I don’t think I was as aware of it growing up, but I do believe that they work so well together, and I can truly see Good in my running and in my performances,” McLaughlin-Levrone said.

McLaughlin-Levrone’s faith has changed over the years. She explained how she went from a rules-based religion to a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.

The change came when she was living alone. She was at an all-time low and began to turn to YouTube to watch sermons.

“I really started to grow in my interest in wanting to pursue that relationship as opposed to the rules and regulations,” McLaughlin-Levrone explained. “And ever since, my whole perspective has just shifted, and it’s been so freeing not only from just COVID but now just a shift in how I view life.”

“To be able to have perspective moving forward, and I’m grateful for hitting that low because it’s not taken me to a place where not only am I high, but I’m also free,” she continued.

The athlete explores her faith further in her new book “Far Beyond Gold: Running From Fear to Faith,” which will be available everywhere on Jan. 30.

“What fears are standing in your way or holding you back? How do you want to become stronger? Olympic and World champion hurdler Sydney McLaughlin wants to help you answer these questions as she shares her personal story of struggles and victories, of faith and transformation,” a description of the book reads.

“Finding my path was a challenging battle, but by grace, through faith, Jesus has given me everything,” said McLaughlin-Levrone. “Writing this book and sharing it with the world is my way of passing along the strength granted to me in faith because, with God anything is possible. I hope my readers and fans feel encouraged, and inspired to relinquish the need for control, and put their trust in Him.”

Moveiguide® recently reported on her new book:

“After Tokyo, an opportunity was presented of a way to kind of share my faith and my testimony that coincides with my life on the track,” McLaughlin-Levrone began, explaining the book’s origin. “Though at 24, I feel I only have so much life I can share with people. It was an opportunity to kind of share my testimony and kind of help encourage someone else who is kind of dealing with that debilitating fear in their life and having that hold them back from what the Lord has for them.”

In September, she opened up about why she wrote her book.

“I figured it was time to start writing all of this down, so I’ve poured my heart out into a book about my faith journey and my experience fighting anxiety and perfectionism,” she posted on Instagram. “You’ll see how much my self-worth and identity have shifted in the process of finding that I can do nothing apart from God.”
