Why Jesse Hutch Lives Out His Faith: ‘You Need a Base’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Great American Family star Jesse Hutch walks the walk when it comes to his faith.

“If you say you believe something, then live that out,” the actor told CBN’s Faithwire. “Live it out in your marriage, live it out at your workplace, live it out in your community, live it out in your finances, your parenting, how you handle strangers…just live that out.”

In everything Hutch does, faith is his foundation.

“You need a base to operate from no matter what you do…For my wife and I, it’s faith, that’s where we go to,” he said previously. “Because there’s not a lot of good leaders out there and that’s just the fact and so, who am I gonna follow? You have to answer that question, and for me I follow Scripture, I follow the Word of God, I follow Jesus Christ.”

Hutch’s faith impacts what roles he decides to take on.

“There’s a sort of spiritual growth that I think needs to appear there for all of us, no matter what we do,” he said. “And I’ve really found that along the way. Prayer, and really leaning into my relationship with my wife and the two of us really sort of spearheading that direction of career.”

“It’s not just my career…You try to impact others. I want to change…I want to affect my marriage,” Hutch continued. “I want to affect my children. I want to touch the community. There are a lot of angles that you have to think of. You really need direction in that. You have to have a base. You have to have support.”

He added, “I can’t just wing it. Though sometimes, yes, you’re improvising, you’re rolling with it. But a lot of the time, you have a base. And as you mentioned, for me, that is faith.”

Hutch wants to stay as true to himself as possible, and that means fully living out his faith.

“For me, personally, I really want to kind of love everybody and where they’re at and what they’re doing,” he shared. “And yet, at the same time, really know what I believe and stay established in that so that I don’t just fall over when someone has an idea or opinion.”

“Scripture says, ‘You should not be like by a reed in the ocean, going to and fro.’ You really need to run the raft of reason before you take that leap of faith. If you say you believe something, then live that out,” Hutch continued. “You won’t be perfect, but by no means does belief in a God mean you’re perfect. I mean, if anything, it means you really recognize how messed up you are and how you better make some changes.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Hutch:

Jesse Hutch shared how his drowning in his early 20s should have killed him but instead led to a miraculous healing.

“I drowned when I was 21 years old,” Hutch told Faithwire. “That was another miracle in my life…I should be completely, honestly dead. I shouldn’t have lived, and, if I did, I shouldn’t be able to speak, I shouldn’t be able to hear, I shouldn’t be able to talk.”

Hutch was working as a whitewater raft guide when an accident left him trapped underwater for between 11 and 22 minutes. After his body was found, he was transported to a hospital, where he was placed in a pressure chamber.

“It is an absolute miracle, man. [In] weeks…I was fine. My eardrums didn’t completely explode; they should have,” he said.
