GAF’s Jesse Hutch Reveals How God Saved His Life: ‘I Shouldn’t Have Lived’

Jesse Hutch shared how his drowning in his early 20s should have killed him but instead led to a miraculous healing.

“I drowned when I was 21 years old,” Hutch told Faithwire. “That was another miracle in my life…I should be completely, honestly dead. I shouldn’t have lived, and, if I did, I shouldn’t be able to speak, I shouldn’t be able to hear, I shouldn’t be able to talk.”

Hutch was working as a whitewater raft guide when an accident left him trapped underwater for between 11 and 22 minutes. After his body was found, he was transported to a hospital, where he was placed in a pressure chamber.

“It is an absolute miracle, man. [In] weeks…I was fine. My eardrums didn’t completely explode; they should have,” he said.

While this is certainly the most dramatic event in Hutch’s life, it wasn’t the first time he felt God’s hand on his life amid a difficult situation.

Hutch became a Christian at five years old when his grandmother introduced him to the Gospel and helped him accept Christ into his heart through “The Sinners Prayer.”

“I remember that she gave me a children’s Bible. I still have it to this day,” Hutch said.

His Christian background would keep him rooted later in childhood when his parents got a divorce. Rather than push him away from Christ, the rift in his family caused Hutch to dive deeper into his faith and find solace in the Lord. It has also helped him find a healthy marriage and a career in the entertainment industry.

“God loves you,” Hutch said. “When I look back on my life, there was a definite hand that kept me out of trouble in many ways.”

“You need a base to operate from no matter what you do… For my wife and I it’s faith, that’s where we go to,” he explained previously. “Because there’s not a lot of good leaders out there and that’s just the fact and so, who am I gonna follow? You have to answer that question, and for me I follow Scripture, I follow the Word of God, I follow Jesus Christ.”

Now a prominent actor on the Great American Family Network, Hutch uses his platform to spread his faith in Christ and inspire others to look to the Lord.

He recently shared an Advent devotional for the network. “Well, for me the Christmas spirit is actually belief in Jesus Christ, in Scripture. So during the holiday season that’s, in our family, just another reason for us to focus, not on ourselves, but on others,” he explained. “I think Christmas is always a reminder of helping those around you.”

Jesse Hutch, star of HOMESTEAD and PROJECT BLUE BOOK, recently starred in a holiday movie from Great American Pure Flix, A CHRISTMAS BLESSING.

While Hutch is known for his roles in a variety TV and series, the actor said that he hopes this latest Christmas movie will encourage others to be a blessing to those around them.

Hutch stars alongside Lori Loughlin and James Tupper, but he said that his role as Otto is unique from his past holiday movies.

“I love to sort of preface the whole movie with the fact that I’m not the romantic lead,” Hutch told Movieguide® in a recent interview. “That actually makes it quite exciting, I think, because people are so used to me being the guy. It’s just such a different perspective and a different approach, that I think people are really going to enjoy it.”
