Chynna Phillips: ‘I’m Not Going to Stop Talking About Jesus’

By Movieguide® Contributor

On a Feb. 13 episode of the Eric Metaxas Radio Show, songwriter and actress Chynna Phillips, wife of Billy Baldwin, boldly stated her desire to share God’s love, and she doesn’t care if it negatively impacts her career.

“People constantly say to me, ‘Chynna, how do you have the boldness to go out and talk about Jesus the way you do?’ And for me, it’s like, how could I not?” Phillips told Metaxes. “If you have that encounter…nothing’s going to put a muzzle on me now because I know that Jesus is Lord and I know that he is the one who put my beating heart in my chest.”

The “encounter” that Phillips referred to is an experience she had when she was 12. After she stole chocolate milk at school, some girls her age “huddled” around her and asked her to read a “salvation card.” Once she read it, she physically felt the Holy Spirit from her head to her toes.

“I felt deliverance taking place. I actually felt my grief, my heartache, my abandonment, my pain, my insecurities, all just be washed away,” she told Metaxes. “It gives me the chills, and by the very end, after I said the words, I was in a paralyzed state. I could not speak.”

After that experience, she had a desire to learn about God but went astray in her teens. Now, she is a devout believer, shares the Gospel on her YouTube channel, California Preachin,’ and ministers to women through California Healin,’ a faith-based support group.

“I feel like nothing’s going to get in the way of my career because Jesus is in control of my career now,” she said. “So if I’m not supposed to be in Hollywood because I’m talking about Jesus, then so be it. I’m not going to stop talking about Jesus.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Phillip’s desire to be selfless:

In a recent video, Phillips shared: “When we come to Christ, we are not sinless…of course, we are still sinners but we sin less. My fleshy self wants to refuse, reject, and rebel. I want to be my own king, master, and lord. I don’t want anyone telling me what to do. That’s just not what Christ calls us to do. Once we give our lives to Jesus, we have a new employer… we’ve got a Boss. We have to run everything past the Boss.”

In a previous “California Preachin’” episode, Phillips talked about putting on her “love lenses.” When she chooses to wear her “love lenses,” she sees people the way God does.

“The Bible said that God is love. If God is love then we should be able to see everything through the lenses of love,” she said.

She told CBN about how love is a core theme in her California Healin’ ministry:

There are a lot of women out there who don’t believe God loves them. And there are a lot of people who are Christians who are going to church, who are praying to the Lord, who are talking to the Lord on a daily basis, and still not believing that God loves them. I know that cause I was one of them. And so for me to be able to have a voice in the wilderness and to be able to say, ‘God truly does love you, and not only does He love you, it’s your unloveliness that He loves the most.’ That’s the message.

Currently, her ministry is going through an online Bionic Bible study, where the hosts and guests dive deep into the study of scripture.
