Tasha Layton on Prayer: ‘Pour Out Your Heart to the Father’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Tasha Layton is encouraging us to “pour out your heart” to God, especially when you’re unsure of His will.

During a recent appearance on Air1, host Lauren Lee recounted her first meeting with Layton. It was during a difficult time in Lee’s life; she and her husband were struggling with infertility.

“You said, ‘Pray hardest when it’s hardest to pray,’” Lee recalled

Layton replied, “I think it’s those times when you need to hear the truth of God the most.”

“When you pray — we can’t stand on our prayers,” she continued. “We stand on what God says to us in His word, or when He says something by the Holy Spirit.”

The singer acknowledged that it can be “tough when you are not sure what God’s will [is] and you don’t necessarily have something to stand on and you’re praying for something.”

“When [I] haven’t gotten a word, I just pour my heart out to the Father because He knows,” Layton continued. “There’s nothing we’ve experienced in this life that He doesn’t know already…so pour out your heart to the Father and seek first the Kingdom of God.”

Layton has spoken before about how she relies on God in hard times. In an interview with Woman’s World, she described a time when she was unsure of her next career move and was full of self-doubt.

“I had always wanted to do my own music, but I was afraid to step out because I was afraid of messing up or not being perfect or not being good enough or comparing myself to other people,” she shared. “But when you know how much God loves you, it releases that weight of comparison. You don’t need to compare yourself to anybody else. It changed my life, and that’s when I moved to Nashville. I didn’t have anything but a suitcase with me. I just came in faith, and I just trusted that God would open up the doors for music. And He did.”

Layton recently released a collection of new versions of her single, “Never.” The new versions include a collaboration with Matthew West, a string version, and an acoustic version.

“This song is special to me,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “My prayer is that it meets you where you are and reminds you that you’re “never forgotten, never forsaken, never abandoned, not for a second.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Layton’s faith:

The singer also shared two lessons she learned when she was struggling with her faith.

“Number one: Jesus was the one with the power,” she explained. “And number two: that He was pursuing me. I didn’t have to strive or work up enough goodness to be worthy of His love.”

Layton then talked about how she shares her faith with others, specifically non-believers.

“When Christ is in your life, when you are a follower of Christ, His spirit within you is enough. You do not have to force yourself on other people, you do not have to shove anything down their throat,” she explained. “You love them until they ask why. You love them the way God is telling you to love them, and they will see and feel the difference. That is powerful. We underestimate the power of God’s love.”
