Former Ole Miss Football Lost Leg in Car Accident: God ‘Makes No Mistakes’

Former Ole Miss football player KD Hill explained how he trusted God after a traumatic accident.

On July 21, 2023, Hill got into a car accident. His leg was caught between his vehicle and a tree. Due to the trauma his right leg endured, doctors amputated it.

“So, actually, this is the honest truth. While I was in the hospital, I went through seven surgeries,” Hill described on the Sports Spectrum podcast. “And in two weeks, I was in the hospital for two weeks, went through seven surgeries. I had five blood transfusions total. Every other night, I was on the oxygen mask because my oxygen levels were really low.”

“Before each surgery, I would tell the doctors and the surgeons to pray over me because I want God and his angels and his presence to be felt in this room,” he explained. “I said, ‘Don’t touch me until you all pray over me.’ And after each surgery, I would pray with the people that had just came out of surgery next to me and letting them know that everything was gonna be okay. And these people were older than me.”

In an interview with 247 Sports, Hill talked about his recovery process.

“The road to recovery has been easy to me because of my mind set. It wasn’t hard. The next day, after my accident, I walked on my walker in the hallway farther than what they wanted me to walk,” he said. “I would do things at home. I would do 500 sit-ups a day at home. I would put myself on the floor and get off the ground to help myself. I just continue to uplift myself and motivate…not just myself…but my family, as well.”

He used his trauma for motivation, trusting that God has a plan.

“The thing about adversity is that everyone has to go through it one day. There is something that I love about adversity that people don’t understand,” Hill explained. “When God pushes you through adversity, he’s trying to show you things about life. He wants you to know that you can handle it. There’s this thing in the Bible where people say he won’t give you more than you can bear. God will give you more than you can bear, because once you come out of it, he wants all the glory and praise.”

“People thought what I went through was impossible, but to me, he made it possible,” he continued. “You’re talking to me right now. As I sat in that truck for five hours not once did I cry. The first thing I said when that state trooper got there was hold my hand and let’s pray. I didn’t see God. I still haven’t seen God, but all I can do is trust him with my life because he makes no mistakes.”

He now uses his platform to inspire others and his young son.

“One day my son is going to ask me ‘daddy how do I get through adversity.’ I will be able to show him how to come out of the storm untouched,” Hill posted on Instagram, along with a video of him working out.
