Lainey Wilson Says Farming Family Instilled Strong Work Ethic: ‘Rolled Their Sleeves Up’

Country star Lainey Wilson credits her upbringing from a “long line of farmers” for her strong work ethic.
“I truly do think it is from being from a long line of farmers,” Wilson told Fox News. “I mean, on my mom’s side and my daddy’s side. They rolled their sleeves up. They got to work every single day and had good years and bad years, but at the end of the day, they loved it.”
She continued, “So that meant that they got up and they did it again, and they’d fall down and they’d do it again. They just had no other option and my daddy has always tried to remind me that he worked really hard, but he’s not just working hard for himself. He’s working hard for me and my sister and my mama and my sister’s kids and one day my kids.”
Wilson said that’s something “important to keep in mind” when her job gets hard because it’s “just life.”
“It kind of takes a little bit of pressure off of you when you take yourself out of it, I guess it makes working hard a lot easier,” she said.
That strong work ethic is paying off for the singer — at this year’s ACM awards, Wilson took home trophies for Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year and Music Event of the Year, which she shared with collaborator Jelly Roll.
“What a whirlwind of a night. I can’t stop saying that word but that’s truly how it all feels,” she posted on Instagram. “Thank you Jesus, my team, my family, my friends, my fans, and the country music community that’s wrapped me up in its arms and held on tight. I promise to keep hugging you back and holding on for dear life on this wild ride. Thank you.”
Even though she’s reached the top of the country music industry, Wilson said she plans to keep dreaming bigger and bigger.
“I am still dreaming because the truth is from the beginning I have been a dreamer and I don’t think that will ever stop,” she told Taste of Country. “I bet you I will be 90 years old, sitting on a couch dreaming about something. I feel like as my career changes and grows, I feel like my dreams kind of change and like doors are opening that I didn’t even know existed.”

For Wilson, it’s important to surround herself with supportive people.
“I run my mouth a lot, but I talk to God a lot too,” she shared. “I think it’s really important to stay as grounded as you possibly can. If that means picking up the phone, talking to your mama, talking to your family, talking to your nephews, surrounding yourself with the people who love you and who know you better than anybody, I think those are all the little tricks. That’s what I’m doing.”
