Ben Napier recently built something very special — not for his HGTV show HOME TOWN, but for his family: a greenhouse and garden.
“We both want our kids to grow up with a love of gardening,” he said in an interview with Southern Living. “We want them to know how to do all the stuff our parents and the generations before them did. It was a big part of growing up and feels like something that has been lost in the last couple of decades.”
Because the project was a surprise for his daughters and wife, he had to do the aesthetic part himself, which isn’t necessarily his forte.
“Erin is an incredible designer with a great eye, so I knew it had to be beautiful, which was the hard part for me,” Napier said. “[I would have] thrown up a shed with windows and called it a day.”
He added, “Every detail was very intentional. It’s the only way I do things.”
Ben Napier spent years preparing for the project, gathering the materials he needed over time.
“I wanted the interior to be very deconstructed, like a shed on the inside,” he said. “Using cypress was important for that; it’s beautiful and lasts longer.”
The project also contains a historic artifact that you wouldn’t expect: parts of the Titanic!
Erin explained, “Most important, there are railing pieces from Titanic! My dad and I even built a model Titanic together. I was obsessed, mostly with the music [from the TITANIC movie].”

Erin and Ben Napier both do thoughtful things for one another such as this because they prioritize their marriage. Recently in an Instagram post announcing their US Weekly cover story, Erin shared some how they put each other first.
“We get a lot of questions about our marriage because we work together. How we get along, find family time, keep the romance alive and all that…We did a lot of talking for this interview and we answered all those questions, but I think the best way to find happiness in your marriage is to serve one another,” she said.
She then shared some practical tips that others can also implement: “Never stop talking. Pray together. Show each other so much grace. Be on the same team. We only have 20 years of practice, and we are not experts, but it’s worked for us every time.”

The Napiers have a heart for creating beauty for themselves and their daughters, Helen and Mae. Whether that’s through renovations in their town of Laurel, Mississippi, or investing in their own home, Ben and Erin’s love for one another, their family and their community is evident.
